Is it just me or are all non-F1 cars really really really hard to turn? I brake early, I stay off the gas 'til I'm facing the straightaway, and I still always end up in the dirt. I've tried the GT40, most every Japanese car, pretty much all the race cars, and they all turn like the escudo!

The Escudo has the worst handling of all the cars in GT 3.
You are probably going too fast if you end up next to the track.

The easiest thing for you to do is turn up the traction control settings. The proper thing to do is learn how to drive better.

It this doesn't help, quit playing.

Fiddling with your camber and toe angles can help turn in quite a bit.

Let me guess: you have all the horsepower mods on every car.

What tires are you using?
 
I'm using a stock GT40, and if it helps diagnose whatever is wrong with me I've been in a F094/h for about a month now, I think I'm just too used to braking while turning, that's a no no right?
 
Brake befoer the turn, then accelerate through it, where you start to accelerate depends on the corner, also set your ASM to 0 and set TCS to 0 (these are available on very car stock or racing model from the off, you get to the settings on the last page of the settings menu's) or no higher than 3 if you benefit from it.
 
Drive slower, it seems to me that you've become dependant on having downforce to be able to make a corner. Everytime you step out of a F1 leave that dependacy behind cause normal cars and race cars are heavier, have less HP "not always" ,and have a whole lot less downforce.

In the GT40, you have to brake a whole lot earlyer and let the front tires grip before you get back on the gas. If not then you will understeer right into the wall. Its a MR car so most of the weight is in the back so you have to let the front end gain grip before accelerating.

Your in a stock car, so ASM 0 TCS 0 or 1 "go up to 1 if you encounter wheel spin resulting in oversteer"
 
Hmmm well the GT40 as never been known to be a good 'turner'. Very bad turning in that car.
 
Well you should indeed put the asm to 0, but the tcs is another story... I wouldn't move tcs above the stock "5" setting, but leaving it alone isn't a bad idea either. (specifically when you are running monsters)
But if you move the tcs down, that is also cool and can help once you get used to it. ( I almost always run tcs at 1)

But to deal with your turning problems, I think you need to worry about something other than tcs.

First I would look at the car setup, mostly the tires, those will make the biggest difference.

Then, once you have the right mods on the car head over to the online racing school. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=116

From there you may be able to learn how to tune those fully customizable suspension, and that will be the second biggest helper to your problem.

Once you learn how to setup the cars, you will be straight.

Now, of course, not every car is going to be a great car, but learning how to setup your suspension, and then spending some time with the racers here at the planet should be a great way to improve your skills.

Trust me, the cars turn, you just have to learn how to do it.

This is just horrible advice... don't give up if it's hard... instead, rise to the challenge. 👍

Also, did anyone notice that the cobra coupe is being shown in an aol top speed advertisement today? (aol users would have noticed this)
 
Found my biggest problem, I was dependant on the F1's insane handleing. But thanks for the advice everyone, I'm gonna have to stay away from them things, they turn like F22s man! I'm getting back on track by running a stock XJ220 Race I got from the GT World, it's working good and I was just wondering, is a 1:40 at Tokyo in a stock XJ220 R good?

I really couldn't tell you if that is a good lap or not.

Being that you are a newbie to "the planet", I am going to say that you could probably shave some time off. (just a guess, but trust me, we all had a rude awakening when we found out there were people out there like Mr P and arco.) :lol: (you will learn who they are. ;) )

I could take a run with that combo you just mentioned, but let me ask, what tires are you running and are you running in free run (arcade mode) or are you running a race?

Anyway, I wanted to mention this to you...

The race combo you are doing with the jag is something that is just like what we do in the weekly.

You see, in the weekly we don't always do stuff like track/car combo record runs.

Instead of just doing the maxed out, fastest car, we often do semi-tuned cars or cars that have a certain weight to power ratio.

It can be a lot of fun because you don't have to compete with the big dog record setters from racing line, but you can still have competition in a fun car/track combo. (hopefully. ;) )

Like a few weeks back, we did the lotus motor sport elise tuned to the max without turbos. (na stage 1, total power came up to about 290hp)

It was a real blast even though we weren't setting any records.

So yeah, get back to me in this thread if you really want to know where that jag lap stacks up... but in the mean time, I do suggest you take a peak at the weekly race series. ;)

P and Arco are both very fast racers... just 2 of them, there are others like them.

If you are interested to see how fast, just try and locate something from P in the olr forum, and if you're interested in arco's racing, just go to racing line and look at the records for gt3. :D

I won my first F1 car at about 65%. I drove it for ONE lap before I realized how dangerous it would be to get used to. I parked it and never drove it again until the FGT at the end. Going from F1 ~> GT40 would be a very tough transition to make, indeed.
I'm getting back on track by running a stock XJ220 Race I got from the GT World, it's working good and I was just wondering, is a 1:40 at Tokyo in a stock XJ220 R good?

I just happened to run the stock XJ220 racer in the R246 Enduro. My fastest lap (stock, on T2s) was 1':37.131" My average lap was about 1':40.755", which included 6 pit stops (about every 17 laps).
 
I remember driving a GT-One road car after driving one of those karts and was confused for a second... Especially when it was a enduro race.....
I tend not to drive the karts but.... I need to drive them on the enduros... I could drive without worrying about pushing the car too far (I get tired fast if I drive a normal car). Oh, great!! I just remembered that there was a Miata Enduro!!:(
 
Something I have not done. The Miata enduro with a 1.6 MX5. I have used the 160 bhp 1.8 and the older 1.8 model with the pop up headlights. Put in the to do list.
 
I am one of the few that can accustom to the transition from formula one car to a "normal" car regularly.I think because I know alot of lines for just about all the tracks that acts as an aid.Man those license tests really helped alot if you actually pay attention to them particularly the S license tests.

:lol: I cleaned up some of the less-exciting Arcade races with my F090/S around 50%-through, though!

I'm guessing this has been said already, several times, but it's you. You're basically coming on a site with a bunch of harcore GT players and saying "I suck at this game and I'm going to blame the cars."
