I feel like there might be restrictions on using tools that get rid of ad's on this site without premium membership, But i'm not sure

Well, it's not "OK" to use AdBlock, but I, along with all other webmasters, cannot stop you from doing so (that's what makes the extension so harmful for the web). If you don't like the ads, I can only ask you to support the site with a Premium membership, which costs $1 per month.

I just turn off Javascript. No Ads about GTP iPhone apps for me! :)

I was told a while ago that using an adblock was taking money away from GTP, and now it's the only site where I don't have it turned on. But now it's not a problem 'cause I've gotz teh Premo!

Why bother blocking ads on this site? Dont know about anyone else, but while I'm signed in, there is a banner ad at the top and bottom of the page which are hardly intrusive. I also recall reading in the past that Jordan refuses to host ads that have sound or pop-ups, which I think is the best thing I have ever read on this site (apart from the GT5 release date)

I use it.

I hate annoying "You've won a free ipod" ads, pop ups , not to mention the ones that make noise.

I can understand the need for ads to support a site, but annoying ads drive people away.

Doesn't show you have premium at the moment?

Just turned the ads back on for this site. When you think about it, it's the very least we can do to help this fantastic site keep going.

If I'm not mistaken, ads only "help" when you click on them, I could be wrong, but that's what I learned. Anyway, what Grayfox said, not to mention ads with links to virus spreading sites, or malware directly in the ads.

EDIT: Oh and Daniel is Premium (red nickname). You can switch off the yellow bar below the avatar.

There is an option to turn off the Premium badge, which Daniel has chosen to do. His name is still red, however.

iIa sure would be nice to be able to use AdBlock on the PS3, because when I'm on GTP on my PS3 there's ads over top of everything. Could you fix that?

Sorry a little bit off topic.

Jordan i'm sorry but many ads can be malicious and my laptop nearly died due to an "antivirus" ad. This ad wasn't on GTP but it was on GoogleAds which all websites uses! I have no money to buy anything because my laptop broke (DC jack) and I need the money to fix it! I maybe get premuim when I have money and i'm too paranoid on the web to allow any ads! So long story short I don't want ads because they can lead to malicious software and sites and I don't have any money for premuim. Sorry

I had it on for a few days when I was first gifted Premo (thanks again, Josh(Where the devil have you got to?)) and decided it didn't go with my complexion.

I think so with the trick of turning Javascript off theres no ads for even Normal GTPlanet accounts! :)

I actually only have Ad-Block after an incident of getting two similar "Anti-Virus 2010" thingys, which really irked me. After getting Adblock, I don't have to worry about them anymore, but if there was a way to get assurance that I wouldn't have to deal with viruses from the websites I go to, Adblock would be off for them. It's actually off for GTP right now, but I have GTPremium at the moment.

well there's an easy remedy for this.

Turn ABP on, but once in a week, turn it off for a minute and click on all the ads you see on GTP.
But i'm not even sure every ad pays by just clicking on them.
I think you also need to buy on their websites for certain ones, so Jordan gets money. Not sure though.

I'd only do this on a stable Linux machine, thanks, I can't use any malware and rootkits on my system.

Asking whether you can use security software to protect your computer is like asking someone whether they consent to you wearing pants to protect yourself from the cold. Nobody can really physically stop you, nobody would bother to and nobody has the right to.

I bet Jordan is raging right now
I wasn't, until you mocked me. Really, the prevalence of ad-blocking is no surprise to me - approximately 40% of GTPlanet's visitors block the site's ads. Considering the ads pay based on the number of times they are shown, that represents a direct, personal loss. GTPlanet would be a lot different if it generated nearly twice the revenue - I could hire someone to help me develop more features, I could justify travelling to game shows to provide more detailed GT info, etc. - and provide it all for free, of course.

That's the irony of ad-blocking, though - it discourages web developers and entrepreneurs from investing time and money to build free sites and services we all love to use. These are the hidden, indirect consequences of blocking ads that will never and can never be fully realized. As ad-blockers and alternative web browsers continue to go "mainstream", the problem will only continue to grow.

Ad-blockers aren't solely to blame, though - there is plenty of that to go around. Webmasters have abused ad networks, ad networks have abused the technologies available to them, and now (most, not all) users are abusing ad-blocking tools, forcing legitimate, responsible websites to pay for the transgressions of others. It's ultimately a lose-lose-lose situation. As a big fan of free web content and services, I am concerned all parties involved won't become aware (or begin to care) about these issues until it is too late.

I had it on for about a week after seeing it in somebody's signature, but I turned it off as most of the ads on this site are good ones which I would consider purchasing. Which I have in quite a few cases.

Actually I am going to do this from now on.

I personally use ad block but I have it set to permit ads from GTplanet. But if clicking on them actually provides more money for Jordan then that is the least I can do considering I don't have premium.

Is it true that more money goes in when I click on the ads?

Thank you for white-listing the site, but there is really no need to click on any ads that you are not interested in. Most campaigns here pay out based upon the number of times their banners are displayed.

One thing to note about ads on GTPlanet..

If you find that an ad is annoying e.g. has sound, or is malicious in content. Feel free to contact Jordan with the address of the Website in question, he will deal with the ad networks and try and get it removed asap. I remember a time when we had a ton of them, I'd submit as many as I could to help the site out. It works to speak up about it.

Gonna allow it too now, on this PC as it's fast enough, though on my netbook i need to block them as they really take time to load.

Also I bought my cockpit thanks to the ads of GTP (Gtomega)
