Is it possible to gymkhana?

I just played Dirt 3, pretty fun, and the gymkhana mode is pretty fun. It's arcade though, so I turned on my PS3 and tried to gymkhana. I went on the biggest open area track I could find, which was the Top Gear Test Track. I couldn't do it though. I tuned up a STi and fiddled around with the torque split but I couldn't get it to maintain a high speed slide like in Dirt 3, even on sports hard tires. Is it even possible? How do I set up a car to do it? Does anybody know the torque splits of real life gymkhana cars? Or is it all just arcade magic put into Dirt 3? But....in real life it's possible, so it should be possible in a simulation like GT5:dopey:

Install comfort hards for starters..and good track choice.. I like to push cones into a "custom" course and have at it..as far as setups try a more rear biased setup 20/80 or 10/90

^ i think the sports hards were put on due to lack of grip and speed.

The main issue is that the cars can't maintain a high speed slide. I have the STi fully upgraded and it doesn't have the power to keep the tires spinning at higher speeds:yuck:?? Ken Block's Ford Fiesta only has about 600~ and it has semi slick tires. If I put on comfort tires, then I lose handling and the speeds are so slow it doesn't really look like gymkhana, and with sports hards the car can't keep the tires spinning. Something is definately wrong....is it GT5's physics?

I don't understand:indiff:

1st off, Its more then likely that the fiesta has been tuned so the torque split is 100%rear, many of these cars have a fuse you can pull to make them rear wheel. 2nd, if you're trying to slide an AWD car with tires that are even remotely grippy, you're gonna have a bad time. I'd suggest comfort hards, avoid counter steer when you can, it will usually send you hurling the other direction. Also, these AWDs need a lil more ebrake then the FRs, Scandinavian flick might get it going in a slide well enough,

Ken's Fiesta is not 100% rear, it has a lot of power going to the front, you can tell by the way the car handles and how it looks when Ken is driving it. Comfort tires don't have enough grip, so you can't really gymkhana. The issue here is that the STi can't keep sports hard tires spinning and it has 600hp. Not sure why...could it be the game's physics?

You mean, is it possible to skid around aimlessly ? Yes, its called FUN DO WHATEVER lobbies, PS , RS tires dont go driftyways.

Sports Hard + Powerful car + Top Gear Test Track =
Gymkhana.

If you really just want to smash cones around, I will say DiRT 3 handles that perfectly. Until they add the Gymkhana lot that was in GT4, TGTT is the best you got.

This is true, although I'd still suggest he give the 10:90 ratio. Comfort softs might be good but its more then likely it would be a mess if you wanna hold a drift in an awd.

Its very possible. The real question is how good are you ?
But I want to point out a few things.1 Those cars have a lot of power and tuning thats not available in GT5 but there are some work arounds.2.In reality they arent going very fast probably 50-70tops most of the time.It just looks fast.3.Just like drifting it takes alot of practice.
If it was easy every average joe would be doing. Its very hard in IRL and its very hard in simulators.4.Dirt 3 has alot of permanent aids that cant be disabled that make gymkhana-ing easy.
TV and videos can make anything look easy.

Trolling or being serious?

If serious:
Wikipedia

Or.. watch a demo.

No being serious. Thanks. It looks rubbish IMO

it's totally possible and I find that 60 40 split with comfort hards and a lot of suspension adjustments to get it where it feels right. are you on a wheel or controller. You have to tell the car what to do "listen here car you're going to gymkhana" haha but seriously using the e-brake is a must and proper scandinavian flick http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scandinavian_flick it is totally doable .

Try this tune. front camber 2.4 rear camber 1.9 front toe negative .70 rear toe positive .09 60/60/60 on the rear LSD about a 140 top speed for the trans about a 7.9 front and 6.4 rear spring rate. 7 and 7 for the damper ext and 5 5 for the dampers compression 3 3 for the swaybars and play around from there.

just try the Element Tune in my garage. It will slide til your heart is content and is very controllable. Although, It's not very fast but it will hold its own drifting. No one seems to like my drifting element especially online. Cant tell you how many times it has gotten me kicked from drift rooms.

My gymkhana favorite is the Lan Evo TC. Grab yourself a set of comfort hards and your good. You can tune it a bit more (torque split) but it should be good. Make sure all aids are off (abs is optional). Problem is that there isn't much of a gymkhana community in GT5. Drifters (like myself) usually see kids trying to Ken Block a course but look stupid so don't enter drift rooms with the intent of being admired for your 4wd skill. Although, if you want to get a lot better at gymkhana practice with a Rwd car with CH or CM tyres or just look at the drift forum 👍
