Is it to late to save AOL?

Is Aol dead that Steve Case the chairman has stepped down? Personally Aol seems like it's dying and it may be gone for good in 2003. dial- up is no longer the best internet connection and many are switching to broadband. Can aol be fixed? The president says yes with some hard work yet some are skeptical. Aol is in it's last stages and only some one with true dtermination can fix it. Would do you think?
 
That's odd, AOL do a broadband service in the UK.

ALthough that still doesn't stop them from sucking though.
 
I used to have AOL and when I cancelled they continued to charge me. This went on for months. I repeatedly canceled and was repeatedly charged. Then they got a collection agency on my ass. Total B.S.

A friend of mine did some AOL long distance thing and got totally burned, too.

Emails from AOL senders won't show up most of the time.

Their ads bug me. They advertise websites like Ebay and Amazon as if you have to have AOL to get there. Obviously aimed at internet newbies and obviously meant to deceive.

There is nothing you can do on AOL that you can't do somewhere else for free.

The send all those CDs out. What a waste. I throw one away at least once a week.

I really don't like AOL and hope it does go away for good. The internet would be a better place without it.
 
Yeah, another thing about AOL is that Doug uses it and I heard that they own the Winamp team, so what happens to them?

I just hope your AOL add's on TV aren't as annoying as the ones we get. To be honest I haven't been sent any AOL CD's as of late. Although the papers produce these CD-Roms that have film adverts and other gubbins and they put the AOL stuff on there. Thankfully I made sure we had a decent ISP because I chose it.

Another thing, why does AOL have to use custom browser and dial-up software? It would be ok if it was any good but it isn't.

So do AOL have a broadband service in the US?

Hey. that happened to me to. we had the free trial thing. decided aol was crap, so we cancelled it. and they carried on charging us even though the trial time was over. we then got the bill.. for about £200. or somthing. cant remember exactly what it was.

also that woman off the ads scares me..:lol:
 
AOL does have broadband. AOL, also owns Time Warner, and Time Warner is a cable provider, so threw them you can get a cable modem and thus broadband AOL service. Aol also offers satellite services as well. I use it. I have an older version called a "one way" service. All out going information goes threw the phone lines, and incoming goes threw the satellite. Works pretty well. I have heard they offer a two way system now, that enimates all phone line usage.

Yes, and thank you for red lining my post! Next time I will proof read, before submitting it to the English teachers on the site. I didn't realize posting here would effect my GPA.
 
Once it drops it's very hard to get it back up. You're down to a 2.85 now. But maybe I can come up with some extra credit for ya :lol:

Well, most of the time I use the express reply, and type really quick, me being at work and all. I just click the submit button after I have completed my thought.
 
actually in NY they have Timewarner cable which hooks up to your tv and is broadband. if aol goes down this will replace it.
 
AOL does broadband in the US too, we might switch to it if my parents ever decide.

I donno why people hate AOL all the time, I like it most of the time.
I don't like the "Save Now" pop-ups they have, or the slow connection it gives me, but becides that, it's nice really.

I have the new version of AOL, and that's 8.0. The internet changes independantly, the programs are what really changes...
 
AOL sucks.

I had my account suspended because said 'nizza' in a chat room. I'm quite glad that it got suspended, because every aspect of it sucked. The program was slow and laggy, the connection sucked, most AOLers are idiots, etc.

AOL sucks.

Yes! That's my point. They have gone to great lengths to convince those who don't know any better that to access the internet you need aol, that they are one and the same. Very deceptive.
 
All of my *friends* have AOL.:rolleyes: If it goes under, they'll be b*tching about it.:lol: I'll be like, HAHAHA you guys suck for not having cable.;)
 
And while you guys are arguing over ISPs, over here in the UK we're still arguing over getting broadband.

I'm still hanging on to crappy dial-up.
 
AOL is probably the worst ISP ever. I use it too, but only because we pay not even a third of what they are ripping people off for such as half-programmed service. I minimize aol and just surf the net using Internet Explorer.
 
Well, AOL never stood a chance, really. I've always hated them, most people've always hated them. The main reason why I hate them is because they send me more CD's than I have the use for coasters. When TimeWarner merged, it looked better, but then they still shipped out too many CD's, and that made me hate them again. Personally, I think the 1000free hours killed them, seeing that people would just install new CD's after their old ones expired.
 
I hope not, those extra DVD cases come in handy sometimes! A teacher told me once, "You can knock AOL all you want, but think about how bad it would be if it were MSN had that same market share?" Well, that's the good part.

$23/month? I pay $13 for a "generic" ISP, SolarData.

An unecessary interface that chokes up 35MB of memory.

300MB of potential spyware crap on my hard drive.

A chat client that crashes my computer and interupts downloads.

No thank you.
