Hi Guys,

Im thinking of picking up a G27 for GT5, I already have a DFGT but I want to try out the gated shifter? Has GT5 improved support for this wheel, including a menu option for it in the game.

Can you adjust the various features of this wheel? Im in a rush to know since theres a chance I can pick one up for a decent price.

Justin :)

YES it is worth & No, no options have been added & the wheel is NOT fully supported :(

But it works just fine :)

And I'll second that...!
Even without 'full' support in GT5, it is still a good experience towards feeling the feedback from the wheel etc.

The g27 is infinitely better
It feels better
Moves more smoothly
Reacts better
The pedals feel real

So unless you're dead set on honking your horn or re-mapping your controls, don't hesitate just do it.

Are any of those red buttons functional though? can I use any of the features?

So you cant honk the horn, thats cool with me I guess 👍

What about brake settings and all that, all done through GT5. Cant access on the fly right?

On the wheel 2 out of 6 red buttons have functions, 1 is looking behind you & the other flashes the headlights (I think)

Nope, can't access on the fly :(

Erm.............YES!

Thats exactly why I bought mine, my Xbox died so decided on a new PS3 with GT5, did a bit of reading and the G27 is the only sensible option unless money is not really an issue. Great quality, OK customisation is limited in GT5 but thats not really Logitechs fault. Maybe PD will see the light for GT6 and produce something the fans actually want.

If you are only wanting to swutch to use the shifter, I would say no. I really never did like the way GT5 uses the shifter and stopped using mine after the first week. I always just went with the paddle shifters instead. Almost every other racing game though that lets you use the clutch and shifter I use the shifter. I think GT5 is the worst game to use a clutch and shifter with I have ever played.

I think you should wait, Fanatec are going to release a new wheel soon and Logitech will might release a sucessor to the G27. It have always been three years between a new wheel release, G25 in 2006 and G27 in 2009 so I am pretty sure Logitech will come up with something and maybe they will release something that can compete with Thrustmasters and Fanatecs new wheel?

Personally, I owned a DFGT, then wanted an upgrade so I ordered the G27. It was a love/hate relationship and even contemplated going back to my DFGT.

Certain buttons/features couldn't be used and rally racing..you need to prepare for a lot of clucking sound! So I returned mine (amazing 30 day warranty from Logitech) and paid a little extra for a used Fanatec pwts/csp and love them!

But for GT, saving a little extra for the T500rs will not disappoint. Plus, eventually they will release a shifter for it..just look at ebay, amazon, or sales from brick and mortar electronic stores..
...or the sale that Thomas from Fanatec is having; $200 for the Carrera wheel, 6 speed shifter, pedals and stand!

I haven't tried the T500 but G27 is still my favorite wheel for GT5 even over my Fanatec wheels. (with a few rubberbands I have a controller stationary at the center of my wheel) As Diatribe noted G27 is quiet except when on dirt it make some noise. This doesn't bother me since my Buttkicker makes some noise on dirt as well.
added: while the G27 is noisy on dirt it still has a good driving-on-dirt ffb feel.

The problem he has is the swaying of the wheel on straights in GT5 and all logitech wheels do that... so the G27 wouldnt solve it for him...

Neither the Fanatec wheel which emulate a G25 wheel unless you like to add a large dead zone which I don't. This is a GT ffb problem which is the reason Fanatec added the dead zone adjustment the start with as normally you don't want any input dead zone at all. The G27 is more bearable than the DFGT when it comes to swaying though.
The worst swaying from all wheels comes when driving the X1.
