Well, as i said in the "will my car make it?" thread is tranny lost 1st,2nd, and 4th gears. Well today I looked at this: http://www.findcars.com/a.php3?q=220999
I loved it! But I came home and my parents were Completely against it, because they think its waaay too much money for a 1995 vehicle and with that many miles on it. I figure I could take out a personal loan if I couldn't get enough money for the car itself. Anyway, people that might want to buy it today are going to look at it as well, should I fight for it, or are my parents completely right on this? On a second choice is a 1997 Eclipse GS-T, it also ran good and didn't but for some reason the a belt is loose and thats making a weird engine idle, also anything after 6,000 rpm the car gets loud and feels as if it looses power. I could get that for $4000. BTW neither were driven in winter.

Well please comment thanks for any suggestions.

The 3000GT has new tires and a new timing belt. Buy, buy, buy.

Yes I'm aware of which engine it has - but it's got 222 horses and not 160.

I know, and I talked with the guy and drove it, the Only, ONLY thing I found that was wrong with it was that it had a couple cracks on the shift stick cover.

Well,im no car expert nor am i still under a legal age to drive but i could tell you one thing. Are you a mitsubishi fan?And how much is your budget?Well, the Mitsubishi GTO.....i meant the 3000GT,is quite the car.Starting at $ 5000 its still considered cheap. But i don't know if its still in good condition after 140000 miles....and the fact that it states "Driven in summer months only" means only one thing......either the car has an engine problem or the owner just drive the car like 🤬 during the summer and store it in the garage during the winter (to me at least). And about the Mitsubishi Eclipse GS-T,its just 1000$ cheaper and have less problem (accept that loose belt thing).*sigh* Both cars are good, but both have their own problems. Its a hard choice to make.....Is this your only choice?Either way,if you buy either one of the car you may run into problems straight away (to me).If i was you,i would try to get that 3000GT if it has good horsepower in it but may have to overhaul the engine.Whatever it is,this is only my opinion (even if this doesn't solve your problem)so don't take this advice seriously.

Well, The guy with the GTO lived in Tennessee and is selling it becase he has a family and cant drive it like he used to, for some reason he put 140000 on there but, when I talked to him in person he said about 120000 :P go figure. And When he did move to Minnesota he didn't dare put it through winter so yeah. On the Eclipse he lived in Nevada. And no they arnt my only chices, the other 2 were a 1986 Celica/Supra with 98000k and an 2001 riced out cavalier.

EDIT:Would the eclipse be a good buy? Apparently the 3000gt is definitely not a snow car and is out of the question.

The timing has been done and it has new tires? To quote M5 "buy buy buy". There are several routes you can go with the base or SL 3000GT. You could buy a wrecked VR4 and swap out the AWD/AWS drivetrain and or drop the turbos on it. Or, you could just leave it stock and drive around in one of the most beautiful cars ever. I choose the latter. I'd love to drive around in even a base model 3000GT. And it is my bias I'm sure but do not buy the Eclipse. The 3000GT is a much better car overall...and I don't care if the GS-T Eclipse has a turbo either. And I even more don't care that the 3000GT is considered heavy. Buy buy buy.

Well,im no car expert
I strongly agree with you here. It's in no way a GTO, and "only driven in summer" most likely means the opposite of what you just said. Usually they care enough about that the car they that don't want to expose it to those conditions, instead of thrashing the car during the summer like you said.

If you are looking for a fast car, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a car with good handling, look elsewhere. If you are looking for a decent car that stands out and can hold it's own against most ricers out there, you're all set.

Unless you throw a bunch of money at it and make it into a VR-4 TT, you aren't going to make anything out of it. Aftermarket parts for these things are crazy expensive. The ONLY (you read that right) company that makes an exhuast for the SL is Borla. Which also costs 900 bucks.

If you want it, get it, but be prepared for a car with crappy gas mileage, high insurance costs, crappy handling, not very great acceleration, and a bad aftermarket.

EDIT: But for some reason, I also say "buy buy buy"

A Riced-out anything is NOT an option. It's probably been put together in questionable fashion, and run the hell out of. However, feel free to take a picture and share it in the Questionable Modifications thread. ^^

Celica Supra...This is one I don't know much about, but I've heard of reliability problems. I've also heard of "crank walk" problems on the Eclipse. Not to mention, that 6,000 RPM thing is a bad sign...it's probably been revved pretty hard, though I must wonder what you were doing revving a car that hard on a test drive. The 3000GT sounds actually like a good, well cared for car, as long as you don't want to go too fast.

So, yeah, from your options, spring for the 3000GT. Keep it stock, dont' race it, it'll make a nice daily driver.

He didn't mention one. That would be a good idea, though. They're actually somewhat sporty, quite reliable. and common enough.

And there's no reason he couldn't open it up occasionally, on an abandoned backroad to "Blow out the Carbon"...

I revved the eclipse that high because there was a little red line that started at the 7,000 mark. But if I didn't rev it hihg how would I have known about the noise? Well it seems my Options just got a hell of a lot smaller though, apparently I cant get a loan for the 3000. The one that is a possibility is the Celica/Supra and this: http://www.findcars.com/a.php3?q=217668
I dont know, I need transportation.

+1 100% agree. Keep it stock and in good shape and in 25+ years it may be worth something. Hell, its very comfy and makes a really good and reliable daily driver if taken care of.

Oooo. VW Passat.

Well, YSSMAN might know a little more than I do, but, barring any unforseen reliability problems, It sounds solid. a good value.

Well,if the 3000GT is too much, the Eclipse is rather ok.The VW passat seems quite ok too but it has no additional information. It feels quite peculiar to me....
but them again,it should be ok if you tested the car already wouldn't it?The eclipse would make a great ricer car,but it would get smashed by a VW golf.....its a stupid commercial in Germany....i think there is a lot of videos of the eclipse getting smashed in youtube.....but really, the eclipse looks good and is cheaper than the 3000Gt and the VW passat. The maintainence should be quite cheap also and the is a lot of part for the eclipse already. But keep trying to find a better car, there should be more cars out there......
