Hello all,
A while ago, I'm not sure how long but it was at least a year ago, I swapped my PS3's 60gb for a 120gb hard drive. I looked at various reviews and went with a Hitachi, or was it Toshiba? I can't really remember, not sure its that important anyway.
So not too long ago I noticed a weird sound coming from what could only be the hard drive, kind of like a loud buzz which sounded like the head moving fairly quickly, not entirely like a seek error clicking sound but almost like it. The thing is, everything still worked fine so I ignored it.
Recently I've started playing GTA IV again and a few times lately I've been driving really fast and the city doesn't load fast enough to keep up, so buildings suddenly appear and textures don't look like they should, but its only happened really badly once or twice, and the game has only crashed once in the last week or so, and I do play it a lot so that's quite good going, I think... I'm mentioning this because I'm sure it streams things like that from the HDD rather than the disc.
Anyway, I then downloaded the new Command & Conquer Commander's Challenge from the PSN store, simply because I like C&C but couldn't be bothered to get Red Alert 3. Anyway, only on the second challenge, whenever things get a bit heated (and with a 3-way fight going on, that's basically always) the game keeps crashing. It hangs for a second intermittently, but it gets increasingly intermittent until it just crashes.
I realise it's a new game so there might be a bug with it, but I'm concerned it's to do with my hard drive. It was getting full anyway so I'm thinking about replacing it, but I'm wondering if I should panic or not, does anyone know of any way I can check to see how my HDD is doing?
Sorry for the epic post, has anyone else had HDD failures in their PS3's?
