Is my Monitor sick?

About two days ago my monitors colors displayed serious fading, and text around the edges of the screen is blurring badly. :indiff:

It looks similar to when the gamma is turned up too high in a game, all the color detail and depth is gone, i.e. black is very much greyed, red is turning pink, blue is dim and yellow seems to be almost completely gone.

I have combated this somewhat by turning up the "Digital Vibrance" in my video cards driver settings, and fiddling with the colors until I could see properly.

My Video card is a e-Geforce 4 MX440 64mb (yes, I know, but it was cheap) and my monitor is some hulking huge HP thing (called MX70).

Is my monitor sick? Or is my Video card going out?

The monitor is about 3 years old, the video card is about 2.

The monitor is sitting very close to the tower, but that shouldn't be causing this, right?

I need something done, quick, as the condition is worsening by the day. I have tried new drivers, changing the socket used for power, and hitting it (hey, it could have worked!), but I am out of ideas.

If things go like they have been, I wont be able to use this comp in about a week.

Your monitor is more than sick, it's dying.

All CRT monitors die, some quicker than others. I wouldn't expect an HP product to last long anyway. The only economical solution is to buy a new monitor.

Thank you very much, Mr. Zero!

I looked at newegg and saw a 17.5" Flatscreen for about $300, which is WAY cheaper than whats usually sold around here.
Thats probably what I am going to do.
