The games been out in Japan since Dec. 27....

Are us North Americans just gonna get a call one day from Gamestop telling us the game has arrived?

I sure would like to know what they're doing to cause the delay..

Just tell us what's going on!!

Is it that hard to call on the speculated release date and ask if your game has arrived? :odd:

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I would wait for game sites such as IGN and Gamespot to announce the official release date for us NA! :O I don't know how Gamestop get release dates, but they probably follow along with IGN/Gamespot.

i have an important question...

do you think it is necessary to preorder to be able to have the game the day or day after it comes out?

I have no doubt in my mind that Sony and PD will announce the release date for GT4. It was no different for the other GT games, except "GT2000", but that wan't even a complete game.

Considering how quickly it sold out in Japan, it wouldn't hurt.. at least you're guaranteeing yourself a copy. And really, there's no reason not to.. it's not like you're spending extra money or anything.. my copy's already paid in full.

As for SCEA.. I was expecting something this week, since the game is indeed out in Japan. However, I'm not surprised to see SCEA remain silent. They're rather good at that.

To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised at all if I got the call from Gamestop before reading about it from SCEA. We'll probably start hearing some rumblings about a release, then it'll be in stores, then the announcement will come from SCEA.

No - in fact many people have reported that they had seen GT3 for sale before their preordered copies were available. I supose it depends who you preorder from. There will be no shortage of copies available.

the wierdest thing is that new stock of slimline PS2's is yet to be seen... could a GT4 racing pack be in the making? probably not.. sony would be likely to make lots of noise if this was to be the case, PD should just give us a month... the game is nearly done, so a month would do.. is it jan, feb, march, may or april?

Depends on where you look, I guess.. I was in Gamestop just yesterday, they had just recieved a shipment of PSTwo's.. I saw them with my own eyes, stacked up behind the counter.

shortages of hardware is one thing.. but paying in full for software isn't doing anything for you, but letting the company you paid your copy to use your money for months with out anything to show for. it's like putting money on the bank but not get paid for it.

i've yet to see a software shortage, printing is possible in any kind of volume, and it doesn't cost them a thing to overproduce, the actual box/disc/manual must cost them 1 - 2 bucks at the most (i wouldn't be surprised if it was around 25 cents or less)

so again, preordering software is pretty much pointless.

well, i had bought one in november, but it died in 40 minutes of best motoring playback... had to return the thing, but wasn't able to get anotherone anywhere. but now that i got my copy of GT4 on the way i'll just play that and not buy a slim ps2 untill there's a GT racing pack... this is assuming i can't get my copy of GT4 to work in LAN with the US version, wich is a pretty safe bet... and assuming the USB network adater i bought for my PS2 will work at all with GT4, if it doesn't work i'm defenetly getting it, if it does then i'm all set.

I've only pre-ordered one game in my life, and that was Metal Gear Solid 3. I pre-ordered it beacuse i called up EB and asked if they had it in today and they said yes it will be in at noon. So I show up at noon to get it and they dont have them yet but they are on the way so i gave the guy my money and "pre-ordered" it so i could just walk in and get it later. Walked around the mall for an hour went back to EB grabbed the game and went home. They said they had roughly 100 pre-orders and 200 units. They had more than enough for everyone. In short I wouldnt worry about a pre-order.

I wouldn't worry about it.

If you put a down payment on the game, they will phone you when it gets in.

Just watch the forums and odds are someone will see the official release date somewhere and make a post, which will then be stickied for all to see.

You aren't the only one waiting on the edge of your seat.

:scared:

.......... so again
The only reason that I pre order anything is not because I am afraid of it selling out before I can get it or even getting it a day late, It is just because I don't make that much money and I live week to week. So when I finally do get a break and save up a couple of bucks for the non-productive item I want I just pre-order it. That way I am sure to have it when it comes out. And I don't have to worry about scrounging for cash.

...sorry for spelling.

The reason why I havent preordered my game. When the game has officially been released, I'm gonna be running around like mad in my local shopping center.

But I think its a pretty poor showing by Sony to not have a release date. Especially as it cant be that far away. I see no reason why they cant just let us know.
Perhaps someone could write in instead of complaining on the forums....

Better safe than sorry. When GT4 hits stores, it'll just be a lot easier. For one, I'll know exactly when the store has it physically on-site, rather than just showing up. And I'll know that without having to call them. In the off chance that they didn't get that many... still, I've nothing to worry about. And the whole transaction will be a lot quicker.. no time spent fiddling with the credit card machine or any of that.. just walk in, grab it, walk out, go home, play for weeks, die of starvation.

While the chances of a problem in just walking in off the street are slim, they're not infinitesimal. Just in case.. I'm covered. And I don't miss the money, either.. that's money that was going to be spent on the game anyway. No worrying about the where the fifty bucks are coming from on the day, either.

Whether it's required or not has nothing to do with it. Telling me that it's pointless isn't going to make me go cancel it, you know.

I personally don't see a need to preorder, especially after getting GT3. I simply called EB, asked when they were getting the shipment in, and showed up a few minutes afterwards. Picked up the first copy they could sell :)

My theory on why it is taking so long for the NA version to be finished is that Yamauchi-San and the rest of PD took a vacation after the JPN version was released.

GT4 is the most important game(I don't have) to me right now, but there's an couple of reasons why I didn't preorder:

1. I've posted this in other threads before. I'm hoping for an GT4/PSTwo bundle.

2. This is kind of cheap of me, but so I can buy from the store with the cheapest price. There also could be an promotion, which differs from store to store, like strategy guide, key chains, stuff like that.

3. I almost forgot, there was an third reason. I don't think it's going to sell out too quickly, though I could be wrong.

EB Games has a nice pre-order system.

All you have to do is put $5 down on the game and they will phone you when it's in.

Then if you don't buy the game within a month, they'll phone you once a week reminding you that you have a measly five dollars sitting there until you snap and say, "KEEP THE FRICKEN MONEY AND STOP CALLING!"

I did that with Chrono Cross and got the clock thing.

However, I didn't quite scream at them. I just said, "just hang onto it and I'll come down in the next week or so and pick up the game."

I ended up picking up the money instead and got to keep the clock :D

GT4 is a different story.

I've been calling them twice a month asking, "you know when Gran Turismo 4 will be in?"

"No, Brock, like I've said the past six times you've called; they keep moving the release date forward, we'll call you when it comes in."

The next day..

"Is Gran Turismo 4 in yet?"

Lather, rinse, repeat if necessary.

LOL! I get that daily!!!

Customer: OMFG IZ GT4 IN YEAT????!!?!?

Me: Sorry, sir, but the release date is still blah blah...

Customer: LIEK OMFG EBGAEMS SUKCS AT TEH CZTOMER SRVICE!!! *click*

Me: Squeal, little piggy...squeal...

Being an impatient consumer is one thing. Working at a game retailer and dealing with other impatient consumers is another.

I guess you can say that's why I go off in the threads like "What do yuo tihnks Sux abowt GT4??!1".

They whine about a game they don't even have, yet you know they're gonna be busting down the door to my store when we open up for the US release. Then they'll go home, get immersed in all the GOOD that they were too busy griping to see, and forget all about the bad. :indiff:

/shrug

You dont see that sort of behavior anywhere else do you - except maybe with girls and boybands, although i imagine they arent as bad as the videogame fanboys.

Ten you should write there names down and "accidently" forget to call them and tell them the game is in. Then horde them for yourself and sell them on Ebay!

I don't preorder very often & when I do its because I can't be bothered picking it up for streetprice when I can pay a little less & get it delivered to my door on the day release. So instead of going around town, I can stay in bed then wake up when it arrives :sly:
