Is the General Lee allowed? What if I just use it in private lobbies?

Hey guys, just wondering about the General Lee. I want to make a replica (well, as close as I can with a 70 Challenger). Will I get into trouble for this? Or does it depend who sees it? I’ll just be racing with friends, if that matters. I know the confederate flag can bother some people.

IMO you are most definitely risking a ban if you try to make a General Lee and take it to a public lobby. Definitely not worth the risk. Keeping it among friends you'll have to decide for yourself.

So....if I keep it among friends, I definitely won’t get a ban? We’re all of a particular age where we loved the show. @.star. I agree with you, but I don’t want to upset people. I was never really planning on taking it to a public lobby anyway. If it really upsets someone, why do it?

I've seen confederate flag decals get deleted but I think making a replica of general lee is probably fine since it's an icon. but I'm not american so I don't know how people will react

Oh I'd never definitively say you'd never get a ban. People are easily triggered these days and companies are loath to be associated with anything that's offended some social justice warriors.

I think you should be fine with The General Lee, it's a TV Icon. However if you just start chucking confederate flags on random liveries I can see that causing trouble.

I don't think PD will mind too much in any case, this is a company that added the kubelwagen and schwimmwagem to its racing game (both vehicles designed and used by the Nazi armed forces which were both absolutely pointless for racing!)

I saw a Genral Lee flag uploaded and loads of triggered people crying racist. So I commented on the post asking if these people are equally offended and attacking people who have uploaded the Rising Sun flag. Which is Japans equivalent of Germany's Nazi flag. But we aren't programmed at school ( yes programmed, not taught ) to be upset by that.

Hi, I made a replica of the Pussy wagon from Kill Bill and It was deleted and got me a warning. I also noticed that playboy logo's are being deleted. My guess is that it will get you a warning, but not a ban.

All good points @Johnnypenso @NFSCARBON1 @lancia delta hf @ReDone75 - I’m willing to bet most people that are bothered by it are people that have never had an ounce of adversity in their lives. Having said that, I’ll either avoid it entirely or just use it for myself in campaign or to show my close friends. I watched the show as a kid, and that’s why I want to do it. Anyway, I appreciate the comments. I’ll tread lightly with this one

Nothing stopping you running an altered confederate flag (eg. No stars or no red colouring). After all many flags across the world use an X in their design.

I loved that show too, grew up with it. I understand that in some parts of the us this flag on its own is a magnet for emotions.

Although on the "General Lee" car as represented on the show I think that the flag has to be on the car.
But the show itself was very positive, no one got killed, justice was always served etc etc, so you could say in this case its a very positive car to do.

Back on topic, if you would do the livery without sharing it, and using it amoughst good friends who also love the General Lee, whats the issue?

Well that’s kind of what I was wondering. I KNOW my friends won’t report it. What I’m wondering is, if I don’t publicly share it, can I still get into trouble from moderators? That is, if I only race it in private lobbies? Because I assume they could patrol those if they wanted

How would a moderator even see you're car in this livery when you only drive it in a private lobby? Smack the stickers on, and have fun ;)

Ok, just wanted to make sure they didn’t monitor the private lobbies. I have no idea how they would. But I have no idea how a lot of things are done:confused::lol:

It's allowed, until someone reports you, and even then, it's only if PD decides to uphold the complaint. I notice there's still plenty of other General Lee inspired liveries...

Although, I notice so far no one is doing the Enola Gay, at least as far as I've seen... maybe that is too much for PD!

And this is stuff that's been shared.. not someone that an individual might be running in a lobby.

I've reported people for the F word and the C word on liveries now, and neither complaint has been upheld... it's a lottery... if I were you I'd go for it... if you're a racist **** I hope you get caught, if you just love an iconic car from TV, then I hope you don't.

Cool thanks man. I find that last one unbelieveable that it’s still up. I’m definitely not racist, although anyone can say that I suppose. For what it’s worth I’m a 40 year old white guy, but my little sister is adopted from Haiti. But I do love the Dukes of Hazzard - great childhood memories! I even met Boss Hogg once and got his autograph! I was like 8, so I don’t remember much other than telling him he’ll never catch the Duke Boys. He told me he most certainly would:lol:

A symbol for luck? That is not what a large portion of people see it as. If you put the swastika on your car, that is asking for trouble. And you’ll most likely deserve it

I understand the connotations of the Confederate flag, but I am someone who absolutely believes we should not extinguish imagery of such times from history. Without it, we would not be enlightened on why it is wrong and therefore it shouldn't be censored; only seen, condemned, but also to recognise what it was used for in each instance. In this case, an iconic car from a popular television show.

Is the confederate flag much different? It represents a government that attempted to secede from the US in order to preserve slavery. General Lee was the leader of their army and fought to preserve slavery. Today, the confederate flag is a popular symbol for white nationalists and white supremacists in the US.

Do you still not see why you might be asking for trouble (your own words)?

Why not make the livery without the flag or use a generic or different flag instead? Is the flag that important?

IIRC the flag is only on the roof? I could be wrong. Either way, using a US flag (or any other for that matter...POW/MIA? GTP? :D) should be an OK substitute.

Yes, the symbol was used in multiple cultures long before the Nazi's used it in what is arguably the most (in)famous of its forms. I remember seeing an article about a t-shirt company that tried to get it back to its previous connotations. They did it up in rainbow stripes and put it on a shirt with "peace" under it but people just would not have it. It's a shame but goes to show that even today one monumental moron out of billions can ruin things for everyone.

There seems to be a lot of players have made the livery with the confederate flag (I happen to be one of them) and my
livery has never been reported or got me flagged yet but mine was uploaded in the early days of the game but almost
every upload of it in the past two days appears to have the flag.

I guess I will see what happens when I make my next one.

Yeah, I want the flag simply for accuracy. I used to always make historical race cars in Forza 4, and it drove me crazy if I didn’t get it right. I wouldn’t go putting the confederate flag decal all over the place. Only the general lee as far as I know has it.

Here's a pretty decent history of the Confederate Flag, and how it go twisted into what some think it means.

I'm from the south, born and raised, and it pains me to see something that started out as an honorable symbol, be bastardized into an instrument of hate. That was not it's intent. SC's capitol flew this flag on it's roof for many years, until constant complaining got it pulled, but it was moved to the front yard instead, we southerners don't go down easy. Finally after more years of complaining, it was taken down completely, with a ton of people present for the ceremony. There were people interviewed by reporters, and the ones that understood the flag's true meaning, were saddened by it's removal, black and white alike.

The people that cry racists as soon as they see that flag, are just as ignorant, as the real racists that use it as a tool for their "cause".
