Suddenly, whenever I go to the main page (News), I get a window that pops up, saying something like 'Internet Explorer cannot open the site http://gtplanet.net. Operation aborted'. Is it my computer or what? This usually never happens.

It's loading fine here, and nothing has changed about the page from a technical standpoint. Can you grab a screenshot of the error?

No problems with Firefox 3.0.10.

I've been having that same issue since late last night and all day today. It had worked perfectly earlier in the evening. I get the exact same message as already described .... "Internet Explorer cannot open internet site https://www.gtplanet.net" Then just below that, but in the same box, it says "Operation aborted". This message takes a moment to display, usually just prior to the pop up box with the ad just above the recent thread listings. It does the same thing on my wife's computer but not my PS3. I've tried everything including disabling my AVG security and firewall and nothing helped. I added the site to my "Trusted Sites" in Windows Security ... all to no avail.

Then just now, before the error message appeared (before the pop up box filled in) I quickly clicked on the link to this thread and somehow, it went through and allowed me to make this post. Other than this, the main page locks up with that error message with the only option in the box as "OK" which when you click it, takes you back to the generic Explorer page that displays anytime a web site does not display.

I think it may have something to do with the ad that begins to appear in the box at upper right. The error message always appears immediately prior to that ad filling in.

What it looks like:

Click 'OK' and it goes to the 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' page.

A quick search turned up lots of results regarding the error - it looks like it comes down to a bug in Internet Explorer. I suspect the problem is coming from an ad loaded via iFrame, which would explain the intermittent occurrence. The bad news, of course, is that it will be impossible for me to track down which ad IE doesn't like.

The post I referenced above (from the IE development blog) does mention that the issue has been fixed for IE8, so I would recommend upgrading to the latest version of the browser (or Firefox) for now. Please let me know if the problem persists over the next few days.

Thanks Jordan :) The link you provided allowed me to download the update as required and now everything is back to normal :)

Thanks for your quick response and effective solution ... I wish more IT guys knew what they were doing as well as you do :)

Just tested it myself, and I get the exact same thing in IE 7. I'm not bothering with a screen shot, because it looks exactly like the one CyborgGT posted.

What seemed to occur was:

1) Type in "gtplanet.net" and hit enter. The Main GTP page appears.
2) After a second or two, it then loads an ad into the same tab.
3) Press "page back" (the ← button), and it loads GTP again.
4) Error message appears: "Internet Explorer cannot open https://www.gtplanet.net Operation Aborted."

When you click Ok, you are switched to the default IE error message page: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

Of course, no problem in FF 3.0.0.whatever.

I think I've identified the cause of the problem. Should be fixed now, please take another look.

I suspect IE8 is the problem.
No, as it stated in my previous post, this bug only affects IE7 (and possibly older versions), and has been fixed for IE8. Regardless, I have identified what was causing it for IE7 users and no one should see it now.

Had the same problem all last week or so. Now it works just fine.
