Is the upgrade to PS5 worth it for $10?

On the surface it is a no brainer BUT, my set up right now can only handle HD, not 4K so i assume resolution won't be any better regardless. Also, is the PS5 version "heavier" and slower to load etc? The speed difference of the PS4 version on the PS5 is insane, i tis SO MUCH FASTER and I don't want t hamper that.

But if even resolution aside the experience is prettier, i'll buy it so long as no performance hit.

There isn't any loading screens on PS5

It is well worth it. I also have an old 1080p HD television and the difference in the visual quality is very noticeable. The thing I most noticed is the increased reflections off the cars. There is no performance "hit". If anything, it is faster.

Definitely worth it.

On the native PS5 version load times are instant, you will get haptic feedback if you use the DualSense controller, noticeably improved 3D audio if you play with headphones, ray-traced reflections in menus and replays, better resolution textures, denser asset quality on stuff like grass in the tracks, and the overall image quality should be superior at 1080p since it would be supersampled down from a 4k render image (resulting in less aliasing).

If only talking about performance, then in fact it would only be faster because of actual propper optimization.
Also in many cases the PS5 version of a game is smaller in size (because of propper optimization).

I have my PS5 connected to a 1080p monitor, beyond the loading times I didn't actually expect to see much difference but it is a very substantial upgrade. I do a lot of photo mode too so the RT for it was a big leap too.

Gentlemen.. I pose a hopefully simple question.. but when the time comes & I do upgrade to the PS5 from the PS4, is it a difficult transition ??.. as in moving the data/games from the 4 to the 5.. last thing I want is to abandon everything i've built on the 4.. please excuse my ignorance in such matters, but i'm sooooo close to getting a 5 and a new 65" LG/4K smart for the man cave.. any help would be greatly appreciated.. this ish' is so addicting.. LoL!

It is easy to transfer games to the PS5. The only problem I had was the Grid Legends PS4 save file can not be transferred to the PS5 update version of the game.
You can check online to see if any of your games would have a problem with the transfer.

As almost everyone has said; yes it is worth it. My TV isn't able to handle anything past 1080 but you can definitely tell there is more detailing and the effects in general of the lighting etc are much better.

No because without any structured career mode or progression the game isn't worth playing at all, no matter how good the graphics are.
I think most of us here like the tuning, racing, nailing the times and using our earnings to complete our collection. GT games don't need a story. Go to Need For Speed or The Crew 2 for that.

I didn't say it needed a story. It just needs structured events/championships rather than just a list of random one-off races that have nothing to do with each other.

I actually went back to GT5, if a game has you going back to a 12 year old predecessor there is clearly something wrong. There's many better games/sims for pure racing and tuning, but the "CaRPG" element was what always made Gran Turismo special.

You're right, you didn't. I misread what you put somehow but I do still stand by that GT games have kind of always been like this to some extent and exist for car fans (enthusiasts if you will) to tune and collect cars. They tried something new with the menus and the events but personally I like it.

The benefit of collecting and tuning cars in older games was that you used them to progress through increasingly difficult championships, so you could buy a car and see how far you can take it through upgrades and competing against much more expensive cars. You would actually become invested in a car and feel an attachment to it.

Collecting in GT7 just feels like ticking them off a list because there aren't any suitable events for the majority of cars, there is no actual function for tuning the majority cars either other than to just play around and experiment.

I still remember some of the cars I used and tuned in GT5/GT6 during my original playthroughs but have completely forgotten the cars I used in GT7 because they would only be used for one menu book and not touched again.

I agree some of the cars you are made to use are easily forgotten, however, the cars you choose to purchase and use to participate in events and races that you drive over and over again definitley become sentimental.

I do see what you are saying, but the tuning is definitley there for a reason. You do need to tune vehicles for a lot of different races. Why else are there so many people asking for and giving help in this site for that exact purpose?

For GT7 you don't need to transfer anything as far as I know since all the important stuff is saved on the cloud, @Sven Jurgens would be able to tell more but if I understand right he plays the game on both consoles and can flip between them pretty seamlessly.

I completed all of the menu books without tuning (I upgraded cars but never did anything with the setups other than downforce).

I don't about the races added since, but I also completed all of the races added in the months post-launch without tuning as well (although some were with the Tomahawk glitch).

My only ever memorable race of GT7 was with the Tomahawk glitch. One of the races at Fuji with changeable weather, for the first couple of laps in heavy rain the car was completely undriveable (I think the glitch only allowed dry tyres) I got lapped by the AI and discovered the only way to drive around the circuit without spinning endlessly was to drive on the grass around the outskirts of the circuit (somehow had more grip than the tarmac). Then the rain cleared and the track dried so I unlapped myself and won the race.

I did upgrade yesterday after I finally got my PS5. Everything substantial was transferred without issues. What doesn't get transferred from your PS4 to the PS5 are the pictures and replays that you haven't "shared".
