Is there an Automatic Throttle mode?

I'm building a sim rig for my 4 (soon to be 5) year old son for his birthday because he loves cars. I already have a T500RS on the way and am looking for a seat next (Playseat WRC?). Problen though, he is way too short (41" tall) to reach the pedals and even if he could I don't think he'd have the strength and dexterity to press em sucessfully. He loves playing Real Racing 2 on my iPad because all he needs to do is steer. Is there a Automatic Throttle mode in GT5 (Arcade mode even?) that will allow him to just drive with the wheel while the computer controlls the throttle, brake and shifting? If not do you know of any other racing games that offer this? Thanks for your help!

Could you not just strap down the throttle pedal so it's always on or do you require a game/sim which does the footwork by its self, because I can't think on one that does that?

It would be impossible to drive any track with the throttle mashed down the entire time. Well maybe Daytona with a Volkswagen Bus, but other than that, running off the track on every turn would get old fast!

Best bet would be to try and configure the L/R Flappy paddles to accelerate and decelerate. Other than that, you might want to consider getting him one of those HKS controllers I heard about on here. Might help the boy out.

You could do the gas and throttle with a normal controller while he does the steering. I've done this (controlled the gas and brake) with a few mates, helps them realise it's quicker to brake a little earlier and gas it up a little more progressively :D

If you want a game that does automatic pedal work, I'd suggest Shift 1 (not sure if teres an auto brake option in Shift 2) turn braking assist on high, and then put a brick on the gas pedal.
I know you can also do this on Formula 1 Championship Edition...

I think that "wireless" Logitech DFGT that you are supposed to hold on your lap has the throttle/brakes on the wheel itself. This could be an option if you can find one.Maybe ebay or something like that.It could be attached to a stand if your handy with some tools.

Thanks, I'll look into those.

At 5 years old I don't think he has the dexterity to control the throttle and brakes at all be it a button or a pedal. I want to get him on the seat and just work on keeping the car on the track. After he is able to that I'll try and introduce him to the brakes and throttle.

Well, if he's invested in a Thrustmaster, why not do a Fanatec GT3 RS without the pedals? 💡

Do this, have your controller (DS3) with you. You can still control throttle and shift with the controller but you can not steer with the controller at all. Only the wheel can turn the car. I do this with my wife because it is awkward for her to use the brake pedals with the G27 so I just brake for her and I leave it to automatic it's a lot of fun. Requires a lot of teamwork to get a good lap it but it's fun none the least.

There is a way to get automatic throttle or as I call it , Throttle autofire .

The Band Hero drum set controller&receiver = 100% throttle.

Having ASM on with other driving aids could make the driving possible. (when not having brakes at all.)

Instead of working around the problem awkwardly (by trying to avoid using certain controls), IMO you should just build a setup that fits his dimensions! If you're building it, doesn't that mean it can be literally any dimensions you see fit? And, since a 5 year old's brain is so pliable, it should be no problem for him to figure out two pedals and a wheel.

However, keep in mind that GT5 is a fairly realistic game. Just because he likes playing some simplistic super-arcadey phone game with an ironic name doesn't mean he's ready for a sim rig. There are a lot of aspects about driving real cars, like braking in a straight line and the concepts of understeer/oversteer, just to name two out of a billion, that are integral to playing Gran Turismo. If you don't think your son has enough dexterity to even control throttle and brake, how do you think he would be able to get a car around a road course?

My opinion? Either recognize that your son has limitless potential, build him a sim rig, and most importantly TEACH him how to drive; or go the easy route and put a controller in his hands and something really arcadey like SF Rush or Mario Kart in the console until you see if he's actually interested in "real" driving.

Ouch, really harsh. Ease up on the guy, hes already invested a lot of money and interest into this obviously. You have a point but damn if its not the best way to express it.

It could be a good idea to try and fit the rig to his specs specifically so he could use the pedals even if he isnt ready for them in his mind, you never know if he might find the will to use them. It would be pretty cool if you kept us updated, could be a neat little setup it sounds like. I would have loved one at that age.

Plug in a ds3 aswell, make sure the ds3 is player one then you can use the wheel for steering and the ds3 for throttle.

I have been letting my step brother play GT5 on my DFGT since He was 5, now 6. I would guess that your son is more capable because my stepbrother is kinda slow (developmentally)

Start him in a slow car on Indy or datona with the FFB on 2-3 and make sure to put the steering assist, SRF and TC at 8-10.

Thanks... Will be sure to turn the FFB way down... wouldn't want to rip his arms off! I'll set up his sim rig so that he can reach the pedals. I'm guessing that I'll still have to control them with the DS3! Anyone know of a game where he can just mash the pedal and crash into things? He likes movies that have car wrecks...

I have Formula One Champion Addition, it allowed as the other post said, full control of braking and acceleration to be done by Ai, and all you had to do was steer, physics were pretty good still tho, think it can be downloaded in full from the Ps Store, if it ever comes back, or there might be a demo to check out first.

Need for speed carbon had alot of crashing into things to slow down the oposition, or police cars, lots of crashing into police road blocks and such, maybe the last one before shift 2 was similar (not shift 1).

Lol, unfortunately all of the good demolition derby games came out for the PS1 and PS2. :(

Three words:
Need for Speed.
Probably Hot Pursuit if he enjoys crashing.

Or burnout paradise. I have it it's a lot of fun. I haven't tried it with my G27 but I honestly do know if that game will recognize it. I have tried playing modnation races with my G27 and I have to use the paddles to drive but to drift you need the X button but the buttons for the G27 don't work in that game for some reason. Burnout and modnation use a similar control setup.

Be careful with the Thrustmaster... it's force feedback is very strong. It is not suitable for young children... maybe you should tune down the ffb settings to 1 for your child.

As for auto throttle mode, it is a feature for some cars (Prius, GT-R). Not exactly the auto throttle mode you're looking for..
