Is there permanent power loss like in GT5 if you don't break-in engine properly?

I'm just curious if anyone has tested this yet, as I'm a bit afraid to put ANY miles on my (presumably irreplaceable) 15th Ann. Edition cars until this is confirmed.

Also, is there a way to replace the 15th Ann cars if there is permanent power loss? (I couldn't resist the siren song of the MkI GT40 :D and put about 50 glorious miles on her.)

I know this may sound a bit silly, but VGOCD (video-game-obsessive-compulsive-disorder) is no laughing matter. ;)

@transpaqua

"if you don't break-in engine properly"? There was no wrong or correct/proper way in GT5 to break in a car. You simply added miles and then did an oil change. It did not affect how soon cars started losing power permanently after a certain mileage.

In GT6 you don't need to do this. Don't drive any unnecessary miles.

I've seen several cars of mine lose their power (I usually change oil before the first ride) and I guess the loss I see is the power gets back to its original. A quick oil change and its back on the top again.. The longest run for a car I have is about 350km so I guess I would be the wrong person to answer on this, just sharing my experience so far.

If This Is True, then I say tune and test track them for about 100 miles without pushing them too much, change there oil and go race!!

@dr_slump Ah ok, thanks for clearing that up for me. I guess I was thinking of how in GT5, cars wouldn't reach max HP unless you changed the oil, drove 300km, and changed oil again. Hence, the "break-in" reference.

Am I understanding you correctly that this is no longer the case in GT6? From my observations, this seems to be the case. Any new car I acquire, i ALWAYS give her fresh oil before it sees a single mile of use. (So I don't forget to do it!:sly:)

The only car I've used enough to lose power so far (Honda S2000 '06 prize car) dropped about 10-15pp at around 180 miles (roughly 290km) driven. Gave her fresh oil, and right back to where it was at. I like to try and use a different car for each series, just started on the I-A events.

So basically, if I maintain my 15th Ann cars well, I've nothing to worry about?

Oil change is needed to reach max power, but you don't need a certain mileage.
Get a car and change oil - done. No matter if your car has 0 or 300 or 1000 miles.

Cars will lose power over time, simply redo the oil change then or when it does no longer hit the same power, do an engine overhaul. That's really all you can do.

Awesome, great to know. Time to let these beautiful beasts out of their cage.

Although, there's so many dark blue cars in my garage (for now) that anything I buy, or get as a prize car, has to be anything BUT dark blue!

It's just a game enjoy you anniversary cars, they will never be worth anything. Put miles on them, enjoy them, they won't break!

Well said! It's not like a real car you know, if the engine breaks it will financialy hurt you! Just play the game, I'm sure if your 700hp Shelby Mustang loses 4bhp you will survive!

I wasn't worried about their monetary worth at all, but since they are tuned to higher PP and power levels than their regular counterparts (some by a quite large degree) I see them as special. Sentimental value. Can't exactly pick up a spare in the dealerships, now can you?

Side note: If my Shelby GT500 was driven off a cliff and died a fiery death, never to be replaced, I'd be happier. Such an ill-handling brute, it's a horribly bad car.

I was really glad to find that there's no break-in period to reach max power like there was in GT5. That was a stupid idea to implement in my opinion. So far my fit has something like 1,500km and it still has the same amount of power as when new.

Wow. You must really love that Fit.1500km!?

Oh my - this thread title should be something else or just delete everything after "Is there permanent power loss like in GT5"...
That was just a myth in GT5 that you could get more HP out of a car by finagling when you do engine overhauls, or by not doing the initial oil change when new.
I think some people seemed to enjoy teasing the unwitting by telling them they could get their Veyron to a few more HP. And then it went around as a rumour.

I knew that you didn't have to break in cars now, but just change the oil.
I did not, however, know before this that cars don't wear out!
That's good news.

Man, I will NOT miss driving a high mileage Volvo Estate 88, where you had to run it well into the red & shift just before it hits the limiter.

Note. That last part is true. But I confess I mention it for the benefit of XPOWER180 & Both Barrels :sly:

Are you sure?

Cars in GT5 needed about 10000km or 6200 miles to start losing power permanently. So far I haven't heard of anyone with a car that has such a high mileage.

No I'm not sure. I thought that's what you were saying. :boggled:

That said, it hardly matters, since you never have to break a new car in or wait to see a low mileage one in a UCD, in order to get one at top performance.

It seems to me to be the same as in GT5..... I now have a car with 8500 miles on the clock that has not yet been taken to pit service, It's power and pp has been greatly reduced just as high mileage did for cars in GT5. Whether there would be some permanent loss or the cars are still able to be restored to 'as new' after so many miles I do not know.

In GT5, my Ferrari Enzo had just over 10,000 miles on it and it had only lost 2 hp.

I totally misunderstood.

Well I guess there are peeps who've run up that kind of mileage!
I certainly haven't yet.

At any rate, at least now you can just go buy a new one with no miles & no need to break in. :D

Haha ! As a newb to the series converting from Forza, I didnt even know you could change the oil !! Love it !

Welcome. Yep, it's listed under Pit Service on the main screen, if you haven't already found it. Also, when buying a new car (or getting a prize car) changing the oil will increase the power by about 5%.
