Is this a glitch?

Ok so I own a GTR stealth model, the one that came from the DLC, and I was playing around with it and installed a stage 3 engine upgrade to it. So I entered it to a race to try it out but then i noticed the exhaust sound is gone, all I can hear is its high pitched engine sound, but there are times (different race) where the exhaust sound is there. Anybody else experienced this? Or is this a glitch?
 
Had this problem, this might fix it. while in game go to options> scroll to bottom menu "Others"> Network> Clear Cache. Got my sound back for me.
 
I recall that during the historical race my XJ13 with upgrade also sounded like nothing, while the stock AI sounded like a bumble bee
 
My stealth GTR GT500 also has a loud transmission whine but I still have exhaust tone to go with It. Whether the sound Is from TV or surround system.

PS3 Sound setting set correctly?

Same here, most of the time my GTR is quiet, I mainly notice at the start line when I'm revving the conkers off it, hearing nothing from my car and wondering if someone has stolen the engine to put in their Nissan Micra or VW Lupo 💡

As long as it still goes like whatsit off a shovel when the lights change, I'm happy.
 
Apparently that is a glitch. My Zonda R has no exhaust sound in race but does when you first get in and it starts up.

The high picthed sound you mention is not the engine but the Race Transmission. They make a lot of noise when under heavy accel or decel.
