Is this challenge even possible?

How very dare you!
There are many, many faults with this game which I won't bother listing but there is one in particular which is really getting on my nerves.

The challenge in question is the invitational challenge on Stage 2 on the Paul Ricard circuit using the Ferrari 612 where you have to go from last place to 1st to complete the challenge. I always use the simulation setting and always use my DFGT wheel. Out of the 20 odd times I've attempted it I've managed to get 2nd place once but was still no where near the 1st place car and my personal best lap tends to be at least 2 seconds off the best lap set in the race, I just haven’t got a hope in hell of even catching up to the 1st place car but every other race and challenge I've done so far (up to stage 5) I have completed within the first or second attempt. So I just want to know has anyone actually managed to complete it, if so can you give me any advice? Do you have to carry too much speed into corners and go out wide on the exits using the blue painted run off's or do you just keep it neat and tidy to the racing line and should I be avoiding contact with other cars or ram everyone of them off the track and should I be over-steering the car around corners or not over-steering at all? I just haven't got a clue why I'm having so much trouble with this challenge so I would be very grateful for any comments about your experiences with this particular challenge.

I had a tough time with this event as well. But part of that is because I consider Paul Ricard and abomination. I probably had to run it at least 20 times as well. Maybe more. I was so frustrated that after about the 15th time I even tried crashing into the field like a bowling ball to knock them out of the way. But keep at it and eventually you'll do it.

Bolgofthe North, don't ever use the blue painted areas. There are a lot of corners in Paul Ricard that need a very singular approach, because they tighten at the end. Learn how to get out of those corners at speed, and not off the track and cursing, and you will gain SECONDS per lap. It should be enough for you to win that invitational easy easy ... :)

I finally managed to complete the challenge today after at least another 10 attempts. After taking the advice on board I immediately got my best lap down by about 1.5 seconds but was still really struggling to get near to the first place car but I kept trying and just when I was about to give up I set a lap time 1 second quicker than the fastest lap so I tried again and by the end of the first lap I just managed to get right behind the 3rd place car (luckily 3rd, 2nd & 1st were all bunched together) then at the 1st & 2nd corners I just breezed past all of them, the rest of that lap was a bit of struggle holding them off as they kept crashing into me but there was no way I was letting them past, then the last lap was easy as they must have all crashed which gave me a good few seconds gap.

Thanks for your advice jjaisli & Hun200kmh that really was a great help 👍.

Hi BolgOfThe North. Your name is familiar and I'm sure I've raced you on GT5P in the past. It's been a good while since I've played it but I seem to remember you're quick and you usually drive the Ford GT (or is it the Clio?).

Yeah I've not been on it that much recently either but I'm not in the Ford GT that often although I have go in it occasionaly and I hardly ever use the Clio, the cars I use the most are the Honda NSX for the expert RWD PP550 races or Mitsubishi Evo 9 for most other races but you may have seen me in the Ford GT.

Can some one explain to me what the appeal is of doing pointless "challenges" in sim-racing games?

Yeah, I always get through all of this kind of stuff asap when I get the game. It's pretty pointless in SCC as the AI is so bad.

I also have a DFGT and found doing the challenges using a dual shock much much easier. I think it's mostly that it is easier to control acceleration and braking using the triggers than using the DFGT paddles.

I still think it's much more fun to drive with a wheel, but it does seem to make the game a lot harder. For those who care about trophies, with the dual shock Supercar Challenge is an easy platinum.

Can you explain the appeal of asking stupid questions?

I thought that might be the case on this game but I'll probably never try it with the pad unless I'm really struggling again, one of the best things about this game is the force feedback through the wheel.

No need to take offense, I wasn't attacking your post - I was posing a serious question.

Many racing games, from GT through Shift & SCC, have strange goals stuck in them - weird "achievements" - that make little or no sense from a racing perspective & are just there as "filler". Unless it's absolutely necessary in order to collect cars for racing, I don't understand why people bother with them. This is especially true when SCC has such appalling AI. My respect goes to F1CE, in which the game structure is totally focused on racing.

I agree in principle with you. The fact is, however, that in those 3 games you mentioned one have to do it to be able to unlock/buy more cars. At the moment, and regarding SCC events held by Jeff, this can be very well skipped since that you can test any car, on any track, online, even if you haven't unlocked it yet in the offline mode. But if you want to test and tune the cars (when does that bloody patch come out?!), you are forced to do it, since you can only tune them offline and only those cars in your garage (bought).

I also agree with you about the pure concept beyond F1:CE and (hopefully) V8SS:NC!

... I wonder how good would be to have a TOCA3 updated for the PS3.

It would be a true Race driver's dream...

You got it all wrong bullie

Alan (as PiotrB23, I don't think you know him) was a TRD3 online player, I knew him there even before I bought a PS3, played GT5P and started to meet online everyone else I know from around here.

Ok fair enough, it makes a lot more sense when you put it like that. I don't particularly like doing these little challenges either (in fact I find the entire structure of Supercar Challenge a bit of a mess) but for me even if there wasn't any reward for completing the challenge I would still have to complete it just for continuity, if I try to continue without completing it, it would just really bug me and I wouldn't be able to concentrate as well, some people would probably call it an obsessive-compulsive disorder, I just put it down to being a bit pedantic.

A quick and easy way to do this event, Re-do one of the other race's in Europe but set the diffculty to easy and then re-do this race again after! This will set the AI to easy as well for this race!

I had the same problem with this where i done all the race's in Europe on elite but found it automatical puts the challenges on elite as well!

Hope this helps some one :)

i found this one quite difficult too. its a big beefy car, so diving into the turns doesnt really work and you need to be cautious and smooth

having said that, i found that to beat this one on elite you just had to be a bit bolder into the turns and risk it

if you dont go mad, the car will tolerate it

fyi though, i did use the pad with tc and abs on 1, but no asm

the game is easier with the pad of course, but i think i might this race with my wheel later, see how tough it can be :D
