Dude in the purple car is losing his mind that I rammed him 5 times in this corner. He even punted me off the track later in the race. Am I in the wrong here? Yes there's contact but in my mind it barely registered. I'm sure I'm biased towards my side of this incident so I want to get some public opinion.

I'd be interested to see the replay from his POV. It looks like he may have been pinballed a bit between you and the white car. If so, I could see how he might have gotten steamed.

Dirty? To me, no. But I consider "dirty" to be people who intentionally drive without regard for their fellow drivers. Could you have tried harder to avoid contact? Sure. Dirty? I wouldn't necessarily call it such.

It's dirty, yes, because you hit him when it was completely avoidable. But I can't see that it cost the other driver a position, so it doesn't seem like anything to get excessively angry about.

Edit: the above referred to the contacts at the timestamp in post 1. Having seen the bit before the punt, that was much worse, as you basically rammed him on a straight. It was presumably accidental, but it's easy to see how he could have thought you did it on purpose to prevent an overtake at the next corner.

Yes it was dirty......on your part. I'm tired of seeing the top drivers bumping and grinding and then get all upset when someone takes them out. I know we all watched the etiquette videos and probably, collectively think they are a joke. But this is "supposed" to be a non-contact sport. I'm not condoning what he/she did, but I don't blame them either. Clean up your act and maybe they will clean up the theirs.

Contacts can happen, but this one was easily avoidable. If you race like this, it just looks like you have no respect for other drivers. I wouldn't say you are dirty, but it isn't right to drive like that. What he did next though....that was worse.
 
You did make some contact with him that could have been avoided but it was not like he got an unfair penalty and he still got the position. Not to mention, this happened quite early in the race. Guy should have just let it go at this stage.

That being said, the deliberate punt he did to you late in the race was just inexcusable. People really need to go find another hobby if they can’t keep their tempers in check over some mild contact. And apparently, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened with this player so I’m definitely going to beware of them.

I'd say that making avoidable contact IS dirty because it's allowing you to race closer to the car in front, and increases the chances of being able to overtake them. If you comply with the requirement to not make contact that the game lays down in the instructional videos that everyone has to watch before taking part in sport mode, you will not be able to follow so closely. I'm not talking here about the extreme view some people advocate, where they say the car behind has all the responsibility all the time, no matter what the car in front does. I'm talking about driving conservatively enough to not hit the car in front in situations like we see in the video where the car in front has not done anything unexpected. And the bit just before the punt where he rams the car on a completely straight bit of track would only not be dirty if he hadn't realised the car was there. Any overlap at all gives the right to the line on a straight, the car behind isn't required to back out so the car ahead can move to their preferred line.
 
Nobody likes it when another car hits theirs, unless it’s helping them. It doesn’t matter to the victim, in that moment, if the contact is done intentionally or accidentally or accidentally on purpose or just plain carelessness, so expect some kind of reaction, if it happens. The pinball physics makes small contacts 10 x worse than they should be, which doesn’t help.
 
Every few weeks, someone on here posts a clip of an incident asking if X or Y was dirty. Inevitably it starts a flame war about contact, car overlaps, superiority among fast drivers, real life racing, Senna, or whatever blah blah blah. We all have our own interpretation of “dirty” but it’s all just semantics.

Mr. Vvise, I don’t think you intended to create contact in order gain an advantage; in the original clip nor the final pass. Perhaps you were a bit careless to bump him on lap 5 and also to cross over to the racing line so quickly without clearing Purple, but not intentionally in either case. Thus I deem you not guilty of being “dirty”.
 
It's definitely annoying when someone bumps you multiple times. It happens, and when no positions are taken or lost, and no penalties trigger, it is forgiveable. However with that prior history, and seeing how he has a bit of lag, that last straw might have looked a lot worse from his side. Perhaps on his side he still had a lot more overlap at corner exit. Technically you had the right to the corner exit and he should have yielded, however lag can easily displace cars by half a car length.

It's always better to keep a little margin to avoid situations that end up like this.

A few tiny & insignificant taps from behind that resulted in no disadvantage to the driver in front whatsoever. Not deliberate & therefore not dirty at all, just ever so slightly careless on your part. Minor contact is par for the course when it comes to racing. However, the punt you received in return was dirty (if deliberate).

I agree with this.

In slow cars like that contact at that speed doesn't really register if you're the one doing it. When it's a car behind nudging you it feels a lot worse. Not that I'm in a place to advise someone much better at the game than me on how to drive, but try and leave more room next time you're on a slow, tight track in slow road cars.
