Is this game worth getting?

I am a huge fan of racing games. I love cars. I love speed.

When I look at GT5, I think of the breath-taking graphics and a massive amount of content which includes the beautiful cars I simply love.

Only problem is, I never seemed to be interested in the series. I always thought the driving was a bit weird since Gran Turismo 3 (But I didn't know what sims were back then). I have tried FM3 and it was great (Forgive me for mentioning it, I am not a fanboy), but I can clearly see that GT5 looks superior compared to it in my own opinion in terms of content and graphics.

The first time of ever getting a piece of GT5 was the Time Trial Demo with the Nissan. I had a very difficult time driving around with it as I probably wasn't use to it at all. The last time of playing GT5 was at Best Buy where they showed off their 3D TVs. I got to drive an R8 and the graphics really took me away. The driving wasn't as bad either, but I did have to adjust to the braking as I nearly spun out on all the turns.

So with all that being said, do you think it's worth for me to give GT5 a chance? Considering the fact that I am paying under 40 for it...
 
If you enjoyed Forza, then GT is worth getting. GT is a worse game than Forza, but a better simulator.
By that I mean that the stuff that's happening off the track is better in Forza, but the actual driving is better in GT. In my opinion, of course.
 
If possible go and rent it or borrow it for a couple of days, or ideally a week, first. GT5 seems to be love/hate for those who are new to the series.

Personally I really enjoy it, but I am fully aware that it does have certain faults that some will find incredibly annoying.
 
Thanks for the feedback so far. I'll try to find a way to rent the game, but it's kind of unlikely at the moment.
 
I would recommend getting this game. There are some flaws but you forget them when your driving round the Nurburgring in the AMG challenges. The selection of cars is great and you wont get bored easily.
 
That Nissan Demo almost made me NOT get the game. horrible, I couldn't stay on the track worth crap, plus it was my first look at GT5...I walked away disappointed. The real/full GT5 is nothing like, absolutely stunning.

Plus I have to say I am extremely jealous you got to play on a 3D TV. I think 3D is stupid and the only reason I would buy one is because of GT5
 
Also, the issue with the R8 spinning out is due to the fact that all cars come with a brake balance controller stock. And it's set to pretty stupid values, that's where that issue comes from.

The 3D was superb. Especially with the cockpit view!

Unfortunately, I can't afford one of them, but knowing the experience of it is good enough for me.

I just think it is the way I am driving. I am too use to playing arcade games and Forza 3 where I would be going at high speeds and hitting the brakes hard just before a tight turn.

Nope, it really is that most cars are pretty messed up. Once they're set to a more realistic front-biased balance, they become much, much easier to drive.
 
Some games are just a must. GT5 is one of the games. Go for it.👍

Seriously though. If you want to try it out then rent it first. I think you'll find pretty quickly that you want to own it. If you rent through Gamefly they give you the option to buy the game you are renting usually at a discount.

Long Answer If you download version 1.05 defintely yes.
Forza is like playing the arcade part of Gran Turismo 5 not the driving simulator part, as i have played both, this is my opinon the game is awesome, top gear test track, nurburgring, circuit de la sarthe my ps3 hasn't been off for more than about 5 hours a day since game coming out. Best game on the ps3 by far. Still need to fix a few flaws,

Now, I'm going to be honest (as always). These GT5 shots are of Standard cars, and not Premiums. They were actually taken for the sake of arguing against comments suggesting that the Standard cars look just as good as FM3 cars. Clearly, they don't.

The point here, however, is that you can't just focus on the parts you like and disregard the rest. You have to accept the good with the bad, and GT5 has its share of the bad. In fact, 80% of the cars fall into "the bad", as do several of the tracks. The part about the tracks is also illustrated a bit here, as Laguna Seca clearly looks better in FM3. GT5 also suffers from some of the worst shadow problems I've seen on the current generation of consoles, and probably worse even than shadows of the previous generation, as well.

Yes, the Premium cars look nice, and several of the tracks do, as well. The day/night also looks nifty, but the weather is pretty crude. You have to also accept, however, that many cars and tracks look relatively terrible. I'm just being honest, here.

But I was a Forza player as well. Forza 2 and 3 were my favorite games, and I had bought a PS3 (for no real reason, but I did last year before Christmas) and Forza became the only use of my 360. Now when GT5 finally came out I was on edge about getting it. The Standard vs premium thing bothered me, etc. Now that I got it, I love it. Get it.
 
I believe that this game is very similar to GT4 with the graphics ramped up a bit of course. However i would like to see if an option to have a voice chat ability with your friends as long as they are not in a race of some kind. I find it annoying that i cannot speak with friends about how they would tweak a car while in the tuning area of the game. Holding my phone to my ear sucks.

I loved GT4 and i love this game even more thank you PD for the several hours of fun. Thank you for the moment when you overtake a that last car on the straight away just as you cross the finish line. 👍
 
I own both a ps3 and a Xbox360 so I am not a fanboy.

The Physics in GT5 IMHO are not as good.
The tuning and paint part of the game is better in forza3.
In my eyes online racing is more enjoyable in forza3.
The classing system for cars makes the game more of a challenge in forza3.

Gt5 is a good game and it is pretty in the graphics department but for the wait and the hype it is a huge let down.
Worth the money you ask defiantly it is still a great game.

Forza does most things better than GT5. But GT5 feels so wonderful to drive, and that's worth it's weight in myrrh.

And the game is improving, gradually, I do have high hopes for the future. Plus with upcoming organized events around here, it should be a fun spring.

So yeah, unless you don't find myrrh to be very valueable, it is definately worth getting.
