Ok here's the deal. Today I decided to see what would happen if I tried to play a copyed DVD in ny Xbox. So, dad made a copy of one his films (Bladerunner), as I don't have a DVD writer in my comp, and was then played. It worked fine on a proper DVD player, but when tested on my Xbox.................it works.

Here's where I get confused. I heard from somewhere on this board that it won't play copyed disks. So why does mine play copyed DVDs? :boggled:

Did you use any region X disc's or any other hacking devices of that sort?

Good choice on DVD copy too. Bladerunner was my first DVD and is still one of my favourite films; and PC games come to think of it too.

Nope. First of all the soundtrack was seperated from the film using Virtualdub and saved as a wave file. The film was then encoded as an mpeg 2 file using TMPGENC (more info at http://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm) where the sound was re-inserted, and was then burnt on to a bog standard TDK DVD +R disk using Roxio DVD creator 6.

Oh, I personally havent got an X-Box but my PC will play copied DVD+'s and DVD-'s and the DVD drive in my PC is a standard'ish one. Seeing as the X-Box is really just a sort-of small, lower spec PC, im guessing that the DVD drive could just be the same as a PC one. In that case, I see no reason for a copied DVD not to play. But if some people say that I can't be done well, I've got to trust them on that.

It could be the disc's you are using. I know some disc's vary on quality now days. I recently owned some CD-R's that would work on some of my HI-Fi's but it didn't like the Sony in my bedroom. It could be that the DVD+R's you have just seem to 'like' the X-Box DVD drive.

Also does Blade Runner have copy protection? If it doesn't, that might be why it's working. Blade Runner is an old DVD and im sure if you tried a newer one it would certainly have copy protection on it.

I dunno, just try it if you can spare a disc. If you still can play them; keep quiet and take advantage of it. :sly:

some xbox's read copied disks, some don't. The two xbox's I have now, read copies, but the one I used to have didn't.

Also the brand of disk you use is a factor too.
