Is this the most balanced GR.4 has been since release?

There’s no denying Gr.4 has been somewhat of a bungled mess since the games launch. We’ve seen a few kings of the class through each update, but I think this is the most variation I’ve seen on the top 10 board yet. Still mostly M4s or Vantages but also the sprinkling of other cars, RCF, Huracans, Meganes, Vipers, etc.

What’s been better before? Are the leaderboard favourites we have now still overpowered compared to the rest? Or on the opposite spectrum, what needs a boost to be more competitive? Just wondering some of GTPs takes on this.

I was thinking about this over the weekend. I tried out three cars myself - M4, Vantage and the RCF (which is very loose at the back) and they were all within a tenth of eachother. Even the Huracan was competitive which is great to see. The McLaren and Ferrari were pretty woeful though. Between half a second and a second off the pace at Yamigawa. The TT is still very much a force to be reckoned with however. They were seemingly the most common car in my daily races.

Personally, I can't think of a time when Gr.4 was better balanced having played since release.

Just after release Gr4 was decently balanced until 1.06 that made Meganes ridiculous, but it's pretty good now although the Vantage is the new top dog on some tracks (I personally don't see why, I get better times in other cars).

Got a win with the "slow" RCZ Gr4 yesterday.

Agree OP.

I set my quickest time in the Huracan on Maggiore yesterday. Top 10 (and races) in EU is still mostly M4s but in races there is definitely more variety.

Agreed. The mix on the grid yesterday for Gr4 was great. M4, 458, Megane, Audi TT, Vantage, all competitive and close racing.

I really really enjoyed my racing yesterday. Sport mode was full of proper clean racers and it made it huge fun regardless of result.

The Huracan has been my personal favourite for the past few days. It’s extremely stable all around, especially compared to its Gr3 big brother.

I’ve also always been a fan of using the F-Type in both Gr3 and Gr4. At the start it was because I’d spent so much time on my liveries for both that I felt obligated, but they’re both good contenders as well. I’m actually surprised the F-Type doesn’t get more love because I find it and the Vamtage pretty comparable.

👍 also very good on tyres for when that matters
Yes! I qualified 2nd on the Dragon Trail daily a few days ago and ended up winning the race after being the only car that didn’t pit:D

I was fiddling with the fuel map throughout. I think with 3 laps to go I had a 15 second lead or something pretty sizeable and crossed the finish line with .1 laps to empty and second place (another Huracan) only 8 tenths behind me:lol:

What!?! This is nearly identical to what I did on Dragon Trail on Saturday! Qualified in 4th, no pit, had 16 seconds lead with 3 laps to go and won by 5 seconds in the end

As you said... I was also constantly adjusting the fuel map through the race :)

Edit: I actually ran out of fuel on the home straight, luckily with only 1 or 2 seconds to go in the race

The Cayman stands no chance in the top lobbies. I raced it a few times last night, was about 1-2 seconds back of top10. First hot lap in the Aston took over .5s off my previous 20 laps in the Cayman.

With a better exit, and in a slip stream, any car would still pull away on the straights.

This race was fun, but I'm getting killed on the straights. A good exercise in defensive driving...

I never really liked the GT-R's, kind of a boring car in game, but I got a win with the Gr4 GT-R last week.
Well it‘s the car I‘ve now put 2000km on because I a) like it really much, b) won it on my first day of playing and c) have my cool demoxar livery on it :D

Several cars are still completely useless in gr4, fixed setups needs to be removed ASAP so we can adjust gearboxes... most cars that aren't as competitive as the other have awful gearbox settings.

I miss the Genesis gr4 -it hasn't been touched by PD since they nerfed both the gr4 & gr3 Hyundais.

I only see gr4 M4s and gr4 Huracans since 1.11...

I haven't seen any of the following cars in online gr4 races since update 1.11: Bugatti, Alfa 4C, McLaren 650S, Toyota 86, Lexus RCF, Jaguar F-Type, Nissan GTR, Scirocco, Subaru WRX, Honda NSX, Ford Mustang, Dodge Viper,...

No, imho gr4 is still pretty unbalanced atm...

Mustang was boss with Monza's first day appearing in dailies, I still see WRX and 86's, I"ve been driving the McLaren more lately myself (a big underdog car) and the F-Type while still a good fast car is getting dwarfed by its counterpart Vantage. Huracan isn't as common as I'm seeing (at least in Americas).

On another note, some cars that got unrightly nerfed like the RCZ Gr4, I've been driving it with decent success, even beat out a Vantage for the win.

ORMA_Snow got a top with the Toyota 86 the other day, surprised me a bit. I drive the 86 the same way I drive the WRX and Lancer Gr3's, they all behave similar around corners (mid-engine type rotation) so rear bias brake benefits for that, the 86 for me is one of the better cars on Alsece.

The Ferrari Gr.4 is a bit more competitive now, but after its previous nerf it struggles a bit in the mid gears. It feels a bit groggy. It needs a small power boost or a gearing change.

The Alfa 4C Gr.4 is a tragedy. PD gave it a serious nerf for no real reason, as not many were driving the 4C even before the nerf. But now it's completely uncompetitive, doubly tragic because it was a fun car to drive.

I agree that in general we're trending towards more balanced. Personally I think the Mustang needs a bit of a nerf.

Nice, but wasn't that mustang on Monza a GR3 daily? i don't think it was gr4, I could be wrong tho.

Hurucan is still underpowered in straights, but it is pretty stable without traction control or CSA. Depending on track can do really well, but today's race you are not gonna keep up with the pack in the straights. Top 3 drivers were Puegot, M4 and Megane.

The Alfa, Porsche, and Ferrari Gr.4 cars could use some help. I enjoy driving those cars but they are so uncompetitive. It's more balanced than it's been in the past but it could still use some tweaking.

Agree, closer but not quite there yet.

The McLaren has been crap since day 1. The Veyron not much better (though I have no desire to use it). I think the Ferrari is fast in both Gr.3 and 4 IF you can drive it.

I've got the same... it's not the fastest car... by far.. but it's just my car... put it yesterday on 10.000 km! And it's the same with the Gr.3.

Both the Hyundais are still my go to cars and I finish mostly in respectable positions. Normally top 5. I do however feel the gr4 has lost a bit of spark but I haven't really noticed much difference in the Gr3 version. Used to be a 650s guy till I tried out the Hyundai. Haven't looked back since.

What's fuel map and how do you change it?

When you go through the display selections on the UI dash, between brake bias and track overhead map you will see fuel map with a green bar (only when fuel consumption is turned on), adjustments from 1 for full power to 6 for max efficiency which you lose a lot of power from.

Use the left and right directional buttons to cycle through, when you find the FUEL MAP then up and down arrows to change from 1 (performance) to 6 (lean)

Back when the GTR was the "go to" car in GR4, I was beating GTRs in my GR4 Genesis (pole & race wins) as well as the GR3 oval on blue moon bay speedway while the VW GR3 roadster was still king of the hill on that oval.

The Hyundai still is my favorite car to drive in gr4 although I like the vantage as well, but it has become significantly slower than before it got nerved.

I used to do a 1:44.0-0.5 around dragon trail in the GR4 Genesis. Since it got nerved -somewhere around 1.08 I think- I haven't been able to get even close to my previous Genesis laprecord around DT, it loses too much time on the uphill high speed S section in sector 2 and on the long straight of start/finish but the cornering itself is still as sweet as it was before it got nerved.

Imho they need to add 1%, 2% or 3% bhp to Genesis GR4 BoP (3moght even be too much).

I raced the WRX last night at Bathurst. That car needs a power boost bad. I was getting demolished in the straights.

Now i know the wrx isnt a straight line monster, but i didnt expect a cayman to pull away from me on the straight while i was right on its rear drafting. Its frustrating to do all the difficult overtaking through the downhill technical section pass two or three cars, exit the section with a fast exit speed and then just get creamed on the straight. I just felt helpless:indiff: a real bummer because i like the feel of the wrx better than the atenza.
