Changing gear ratios does show the effect on top speed, but it is not realistic.
In GT5, it showed the fastest speed you could get out of the car. That isn't happening this time. My Renualt Clio is apparently capable of 250 mph !!! Yeah right.
It may help if they hadn't removed the benchmark / test tracks.
