This is the discussion thread for an article on GTPlanet:

Is Xiaomi Coming to Gran Turismo?

A recent burst of activity on the social media channels of Gran Turismo’s creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, has set some tongues wagging about the possibility of a new marque from a previously unrepresented nation to come to the game series: Xiaomi...

This would be a neat addition... for GT8.

I don't want it as a GT7 update car though, because it is almost uniquely poor a fit for the game's single-player event structure. As a road car, it'd be ineligible for basically everything except the Sunday Cups and WTC600 because of how regional event restrictions are in this game (and I'm not convinced you could bring something that powerful down below 600PP either). If you built it into a racing car it would fall into the same black hole the ID.R lives in where all the racing car events have high fuel multipliers that make electric cars and their short battery lives unviable. Custom races don't allow electric cars as anything other than one-makes. It just doesn't fit.

And you know PD wouldn't use this in Sport Mode beyond one Daily A.

Not to mention the fact that none of the electric cars can be upgraded beyond an ECU. You'd hope that the next game expands their tuning capabilities.

Cool, and one thing is for sure, in the game, the two air intakes on the hood will be merely decorative.

Impressive for this company to beat two lap records at the ring, that Porsche held before.

Will this lead Porsche to take a modesty pill and reduce prices for their cars?

Although I read the European Union put 15-35% tariffs on Chinese EVs. If you can’t beat them, ban them.

Seems like part of the deal with strengthening Japan/China trading. Wouldn’t be surprised if more Chinese brands than Xiaomi are introduced to the franchise. Especially vehicles from Gran Turismo legacy brands that are only sold in China.
Considering the size of the Chinese market, I’m surprised we have not seen a road circuit from that region yet.

Im all for seeing more brands represented. From the Chinese EV stuff I think I'd first consider BYD or GWM, but with all the commercial dealings and licensing that take places in these things, I'm happy to see Xiaomi as well!

Yep, sure does sound very..... democratic 🤣 Anything from China is seen as a huge threat. Probably because they build things cheaper and in many cases, better. Welcome to the wonders of capitalism, EU. They had been revelling in it for decades along with the US. Now that they're being outcompeted, it's "Houston, we gotta problem" 🤦

I think the problem is that China heavily subsidizes their car industry and then they dump their cheap products on the European market. So the European car industry needs some protection or else it will be destroyed. People need to think twice before buying Chinese EV's.

I would rather have a Koenigsegg a Hennesey or something like that, than a BYD or XAIOMI car....
PD is simply choosing the trend of Chinese cars over putting some car brands with really interesting cars like etc Lotus....

It seems like a fast car, should be included in GT7 in the future. And the Shanghai International Circuit should also be included. Better than Hong Kong circuit from GT4.

I'm not sure I've seen a more wrong sentence before.

Let's start with the fact that there's no Chinese cars in the game at all, so how is PD "simply choosing" them?

I’m still old school as I automatically go in my mind to my Android modding days at xda vs Xiaomis MIUI launcher and stuff whenever I hear Xiaomi 😄 but on topic the more cars the better! But I do agree with previous posters in that it’ll be almost useless in GT7 as it’s currently is

PD cannot choose something that does not exist. If you don't understand that then you must learn a bit more English.
When a new constructor getting in virtual world of GT7 how can we say it? And this choice isn't by PD????
Don't stuck in words....Anyway

PD could choose to include Chinese cars in the future. I guess they will, as with most aspects of GT7 & the future it is mostly uncertain. But in the past there is no Chinese cars in GT series. There is Hong Kong circuit from GT4. That's a fact for now.
