...It's a great looking car, so obviously voted, but top speed in excess of 300kph, back in 1963? That doesn't sound right...

Sorry, but what do you mean with "the original version?" This is a standard car of the first year that this model was in production. In 1965 did Bizzarrini the very same model with it's own name Bizzarrini 5300 GT it's only some things that's are different :)
