Issues adjusting exposure in photomode

I'm at a loss with this ... I simply can't get the exposure adjustment to work in photomode. I've tried manually adjusting the exposure value to max and min, using AE lock then focusing, focusing then using AE lock, using AE lock on the dark and bright areas of the image ... everything I could think of. I always get the same exposure. It looks like standard center weighted average metering.

Is there something simple that I'm missing like an auto exposure toggle in the menu or something?

With some tracks/locations you can't get as dark or as bright. But just try adjusting the EV then Locking it when you see the picture look right.

Okay ... adjust the EV THEN lock. That makes sense I guess. I thought it auto-exposed on focus and you could lock it from there ...

I had this problem at London a couple days ago. I could darken it, but past about +.3 it wouldn't make any difference. I could turn it all the way up to +5 and it refused to get any brighter. Annoying, but oh well.

I was testing at London ... hmmmm. I will try it at another location and see if maybe London is the problem.
