It's a Lotus Elan - or is it?

Where's "Boosted" Elan gone anyway? Has he realised that he's been rumbled?

For the record I would own and drive this... ...

It used to go pretty well with the Isuzu engine.

Much more power with its FWD and your going to unbalance the finely tuned (some say best FWD) chassis.

Well Kia Elans are new to me :odd:

I take it there not available in the UK officially? Wasn't there something special about the Lotus Elans steering apart from it being FWD? I always thought quite liked the looks of the 90s Elan although its partially due to Lotus III on the Amiga and the fact it looks like a baby Esprit ;)

Kia sold Elans in the UK.

Not that anyone really bought them, mind.

This is an internet forum, you're guilty no matter what.

 How true!

What a load of crap, an internet troll who makes just two posts?

Is that the same Lotus-Isuzu 1.6 in the Impulse? Was a neat idea, equal lengh driveshafts and perfect balance. I'd like one, but my FF family car is faster, has a more common and more easily serviceable engine, and looks just a bit better.

I'd drive one, though, just for kicks.

I thought Lotus used to employ Rover K Series engines for lower performance automobilia?

The Lotus Elan came with the Isuzu FXE1-T engine. 1.6 liter DOHC turbocharged, producing 162hp at 6,600rpm in a 2,249lb car. I believe even the Kia variant used some kind of Japanese motor, although less potent.

It sure is, minus the Impulse RS's 4WD drivetrain, also used in the Geo Storm as a 1.6 SOHC (FXE1-V), 1.6 DOHC (FXE1-W), Isuzu Stylus (FXE1-W), the Gemini in Japan (191F Type and 191S Type. Interesting fact, we had a guy from Japan order strut braces and pay nearly $100 shipping for them), and the Asuna Sunfire in whatever the hell engines it came with I believe. In the US, it's very easy to find FXE1 parts. We've got several thousand dollars worth of them laying around in storage.

Now see, the fun thing to do with one of these cars, would be to swap in the 4.9 V8 motor from my DeVille into a Storm or an Impulse - The Isuzu 5-Speed transmission bolts up, and the engine will physically fit, and the engine mounts are not horribly different.

That would be fun.

I met a guy who had one... trying to sell it. Shame, it was a beauty, an FF Isuzu Impulse with the quad semi-covered headlights. Funky car, rare as hell here. Too bad you can't get parts locally.
