Well I had a good run goin, but all good things must come to an end. I was deleting spyware off my computer today w/ adaware, and took a couple things out of the startup from msconfig that didnt need to be in there, and uninstalled them too. one was some webrebates things and somthing else. I rebooted my computer. and lo and behold, my internet no longer works!!

Works fine on the rest of the computers in the house, but mine wont recognize a connection anymore or somthing, i dont know what the problem is. I have cox internet, so i tried reinstalling the initialization cd to get it to recognize the internet, but it encounters some kinda error when it tries to renew my ip address or some crap.

I tried to do a system restore, i went back 4 days it but it cant restore my system for some reason. I dont know what the hell happened. If anyone has any suggestions as to what i may try, OTHER than "Time 4 a r3boot dood!", they'd be greatly appreciated

How do you connect to the internet connection? Network card? USB modem?

I would think that a removal and reinstallation of the hardware will cause the drivers to be reset back to proper condition.

You can try using system restore and backdating your pc to a previous date. You could also try re-installing drivers for your network/56kmodem card. You could also try re-installing an internet browser, or switching to a new one, like Mozilla Firefox or Opera.

Give us a holler if you still have problems.

As far as trying a different browser, I dont think the browser is the problem, cuz anything i have that requires use of the internet (aim, weatherbug, etc) doesnt work.

Im on cable internet, so i have a linksys cable modem going into a linksys router and into my computer (and other computers) The other computers work fine, but even when I try to hook my computer directly up to the cable modem it still doesnt work. Im using a built in Ethernet port that came on my motherboard. When i check my network status, it says its connected, and even recognizes when i unplug the cable, yet it just doesnt seem like its recieving the signal from the cable modem. Perhaps it is a driver issue...i dont know, i'll have to check that out

Try the repair option when you run the OS disk. See if you can't undo what you did in msconfig.

well its back thank jeebus. we had to call tech support, and they ended up getting us into the registry editor to delete a couple winsock things and then we rebooted i was back in the game. apparently they were preventing the computer from renewing its IP address or somthing. But im glad thats all taken care of now
