iTunes

My iTunes program is kinda messed up, i just opened it now and all the files were gone from the player, but still in the itunes folder in "My Music". I just re added all of them, i didnt update my iTunes to 7.0, but what was the cause of this?

Can't say, really. As long as they stay there now, it's fine. Maybe a glitch with the program. If it was file related, they'd either be deleted or it wouldn't give a "can't locate file blahblahba...." dialog. If it does it again, reinstall. Or better yet, upgrade.

Don't upgrade to 7.0.2. CNET said its the worse software update this year. I upgraded, and it screwed up my PC so much that iTunes became unusable. Right now it works fine but I'm always fearing the day it crashes.s

Agreed, and its to late for me, i alread installed, damn it...

Sync iTunes and your iPod properly. That should solve the problem.

I updated to 7.0.2 and I had no problems. Just because CNET says: "it's the worst software update this year" doesn't mean ****. Not having updated to at least 7.0 is insane.

If i put on album art on itunes will it affect my ipod? My ipod is a mini, and doesnt have the album art option

Not at all. There's no reason for it to attempt to add them, and even if it does the mini won't do anything - it's not been programmed to recognise or open them. Never had any problems with the latest iTunes with artwork not working with my gen 2 mini.

Question- does Apple (or any other third party) collect information about files on your computer when using iTunes Store? I have some downloaded (free) songs and anticipate on replacing them with purchased copies (especially the downloads which sound like sht because some idiot just recorded it off the radio).

Before I start using iTunes store I want to be sure that no information about existing files will be obtained.

💡

Nope, the only information about your songs that iTunes sends back to Apple is the names of the albums with missing album art when it is set to retrieve album art automatically.

Closing it isn't necessary.

Tip 1: Stop using iTunes!

I recently bought a 30Gb iPod video and iTunes is the worst thing I've ever used!

does anyone know if there is an easy way to use the new coverflow view with a plugged in ipod?

I haven't upgraded iTunes to 7.0.2 because it and my Roku Soundbridge won't work together. Fortunately I had an e-mail from Roku telling me this before upgrading.

In response to the OP, the problem was caused by the iTunes XML files - which are stored in your user profile - becoming corrupt. It would have been fixable by resetting the location of your music library within the advanced options.

I'd suggest select all the songs you want to play with WMP, right click and there should be an option which allows you to choose the program to play the selected files 👍

Whats bad about iTunes with an iPod Video? It's fine with me exept when I use a diffrent computer to transfer songs it deletes the purchased ones of my IPod.

The new iTunes is fine, but the artist sorting is wierd, the numbers arent the first artist, and i want it that way. Anyone know how to fix it?
Yes, it can be changed but it takes some work.

  1. Right click the song you want to be in the beginning of the playlist.
  2. Go to the "Sorting" tab.
  3. In the top right, you'll see "Sort Name"
  4. Put "aaa" or whatever you like that can't be beaten in alphabets in front of the song name.
  5. As an example, "5.15 a.m." would become "aaa 5.15 a.m."
  6. Click OK.
  7. And hey presto, it works!
It can be debated if it's worth the work, but it can be done. 👍
