Steve Miller was a kid from Texas in the early '60s. He played guitar and had his own band doing fraternity party gigs by age 14 (legal driving age in Texas at the time). Then he moved to California in the late '60s, where he hooked up with a guy named Boz Skaggs. Boz sang for the Steve Miller Band for a couple albums (notably one called Sailor from about 1969) and had the hit "Livin' In The USA". Skaggs left the band after that for a solo career, and Stevie took over singing. The revised Steve Miller Band had a number of huge-selling albums throughout the '70s, including Book Of Dreams and Fly Like An Eagle.
Miller has a kind of cool, blues-derived guitar style; his songwriting and singing are decent, his playing is solid.
