I found it rather interesting that the Japanese demo was completely in English. I wonder if the game detects what region you're in and sets the default settings? My hope is if we import the Japanese version, it will do the same.

Comparisons:
The Japanese demo uses mph, has the word "theater" in the Audio settings for Dynamic Range.

The UK demo also uses mph and has the word "theatre" as it is traditionally spelled in the UK.

The US store still has not updated.

Could someone from Japan please chime in with their observations?

Let's hope the full game will do the same. If so, I'm so gonna import the game.

It's what you use as a setting on your PS3

Japanese Prologue does not follow that rule. Nor, the GT5P Demo that was available only from the Japanese store. You know, when they unveiled the GTR and the new Subby.

Besides, nowhere in the PS3 settings on the XMB is there a place to tell it to use mph or kph when playing racing games.

Your theory still does not explain the differentiation in the spelling of "theater" and (European & Canadian) "theatre". I'm 99.9% positive the US version of the demo will also spell it "theater".

I think it's based on the language settings of your PS3. I downloaded the Japanese version on my Dutch PS3, and it didn't translate to English (US or UK), it stayed in Japanese.

GTPSP does this too BTW, it selects language based on your PSP settings. If you set the system language to English, it's in English, set it to Dutch and it's in Dutch.

In the examples you provided 'theater' is the way it's spelled in the JP demo. 'Theatre' is how it's spelled in the UK demo. Two different demos with two different language files. I don't think either will spell differently in a different region or with different settings.

Im living an Japan and was fully expecting the demo to be in Japanese...but much to my joy everything was in English!!!!wich makes me wander if the full game will be in English when it comes out over here..????

If a game supports the language you set your XMB to, it will load that automatically.

(you guys need to play more games, not just GT5P :p)

Not true. For example:
I have an English copy of MW2 and my PS3 is set to english, the game is in english. My friend has a French copy of MW2 and his PS3 is set to english but the game is still in French. We bought our copy at the same store too.

now that is a real news...

if just Japanese version will have eng subs... I'll be happiest man in the world in march :D

"If" is the keyword here. The French copy of MW2 probably just doesn't have English language files.
