GTPlanet, here's another old title. This one is from the series you know and love for rally games and touring cars. The campaign for this game is that cars don't go through Hell and still look spotless. So in comes Codemasters to come up with yet another racing title to whet the palates of racing gamers. I will judge by pros, cons, and of course, the rendering of my final verdict.
PROS: lots of cars, including many championships to compete in; with 20+ tracks to race on under many weather conditions, it's hard not to set up that dream race; competitive racing; good number of cars to unlock from a Mitsubishi FTO, to a Dodge Viper, all the way up to the Bentley Hunadieres; alright graphics, even it its time; nice array of cameras to choose from to enjoy your racing.
CONS: biggest con? Ned Jarrett! Good move, Codemasters. Screwed up this game like you all did Colin McRae Rally 2; the NASCAR endorsement really kills the purpose of an international touring car series. And for the record, NASCAR race cars are not touring cars; the AI racers race like NASCAR drivers at Talladega or Daytona; not really good music to listen to while racing; kind of slow FPS while racing
VERDICT: I'd give this game a higher score if it was more traditional touring car racing. The NASCAR endorsements killed it for me. I bet it would probably be the same if I played a NASCAR game and have it called "Sascha Maasen's GT Racing." Get your priorities straight with the naming deal. I know that such game companies want to show us international racing using American personalities since many of us couldn't tell Steve Soper or Peter Brock or someone, but I'd rather have some tradition. Create-a-Profile would be nice, but in championship mode, you're racing with two people who'd rather do Bristol, Hickory, and Charlotte rather than Brands Hatch, Suzuka, and Bathurst. (Verdict: 8.75/10)
