Hello GTPlanet Photographers :) .

I'm a complete novice to this whole new way of life of DSLR Photography, but I'm enjoying the experience of getting to grips with my newly purchased Sony Alpha A390 with 18-55 lens and Kenko UV Filter.

Below are a couple of my latest photos that I've just uploaded to my newly opened Flickr account.

You'll want to properly link to those images first. Flickr has easy sharing options if you click them, complete with link back and such.

Some adjustments in while balance, and leveling those shots, would go a long way I feel. Both are neat ideas and the execution is pretty solid for a novice, and I'd consider maybe putting a little fill light into the bottle shot.

+1 To Azure's comments, additionally I'd frame the bottle of Jacques a bit tighter, the black space below unbalances the composition. With a bit of adjustment it'd make for a pretty good product shot. 👍

Managed to sort out the links 👍

Thanks for the advice :) . Could you please explain in a bit more detail for me on the above "bolded" comment.

Here is a cropped version, is this what you meant?

Yes, with the cropping. But the line for the ottoman or whatever is a bit crooked. Straighten that out and it would help a great deal with the balance.

I think the bottle shot is also underexposed, but it has great potencial. You should give the whole thing another try.

I see that you shot it in manual mode, and since I'm guessing f/5.6 is your maximum aperture @45mm, you should try and double the exposure time (4s at least).

Hi Jenko, its a nice shot and great atmosphere but I agree with other so far, the composition isn't what you would call conventional, you may want to look at the rule of thirds for a starting point.

bit of info on rule of thirds

and also as some have said the exposure is a little off on the bottle, obscuring what is the main focal point of the image. If you would pardon my attempt but I have edited the original image to what I would would have done, others may disagree and that what's great about photography its what you like unless of course you want to be commercial and sell images then you have to conform to the rules to make them more appealing to others.

There wasnt much to play with as a jpeg, and I'm sure some on here will be able to do a better job of it, but it gives you an idea.

Thanks for all your advice and tips guys 👍 Like I said, I'm a complete novice with my DSLR, previously only used Digital Compact Cameras, mainly Sony Cybershots :) . At the moment I'm just enjoying taking photos and trying to discover and familiarise myself with the camera.

So today I started work late and went for a little stroll up the lane from my house and came up with these shots. I took loads but have only uploaded these few......for now. These are all un-edited and just as I shot them.

Tried my hand at capturing Rain Drops on my bedroom window.

Took the photo in RAW and attempted a bit of editing using Picasa 3.

Sat in a Coffee Shop this morning with the Mrs, tried my hand at random person shot. Would have been better if the chairs in front of him weren't there. Tad bit of cropping and contrast alterations.

You can't beat a good game of Snakes & Ladders, although I lost to my 7 year old son.
