Discussion about FASTEST LAPS are tolerated, but that's the only value allowed to be discussed.

A few people already know that yesterday I got the Disk Read Error, so I won't be submitting any times until I can either fix the problem or buy another copy of GT4. Hopefully I can get this done soon.

It's a shame that I can only tell that i didn't win by my getting my power back, Eats.

I'm sure you will sort it!

God, I suck hard at Motegi. It actually took me two laps just to pass the 5th place Fairlady Z Concept LM. This stop-and-go doesn't work, I can never brake late enough...

Yeah, Motegi has a slightly mechanical rhythm to it, if you watch your replay at 3x speed you can notice it quite easily. Personally I love this track, it's a great combination of corner types and is overall a very technical circuit. I usually seem to do pretty well here, I'm looking forward to seeing how the Pitworks Z tackles it...

Unlike last week AI is a big factor here. I can't come anywhere near mid 1'43s I ran in free practice.
Also I find gearing tricky - what's good for one corner totally suck elsewhere.

Is it possible to rephrase that because I don't quite understand?

R1 you won, R2-R3-R4 penalty is on, R5 you get it back.

What I meant is:
I could tell that I hadn't won round 4, BECAUSE I had got my power back for this round.
But that was all I could tell, because the results table wasn't/isn't showing (except for the link to imageshack which you have recently put in the post)
:)

Wow, that AI us REALLY tough this week. Had a couple of goes at it, and I think I have a target in mind, but question for you all. Well, one for everyone and one for EV4L.

@ EV4L: As long as you don't incur a penalty, is bump-drafting allowed?

@ Everyone: What's a better strategy? Since I'm only winning by 1-2 sec, would it be faster to bump-draft the lead car and get those extra boosts around the course? or simply pass and go. I've tried the latter so far, but like i said, only 1-2 sec victory. Thoughts?

My thoughts are this: "bump-drafting" is gonna be slower than just getting a good draft and passing at the last moment. If you touch the car in front of you, you're losing more speed than he gains from the bump.

Plus, it's kinda taking advantage of the supreme rear grip of the AI cars provided by the slightly skew GT4 physics engine IMO :)

What do you mean? I haven't heard of this before.

And, I KNOW I'm going to hate the AI this week. If everyone else hates it, I'm going to DIE!

If you nudge the rear of a car at speed, particularly a rear-wheel drive car, the rear will generally lose grip for a few moments, which in RL often results in loss of control for the driver.

To test an extreme example, try performing a standard PIT manuever on an AI car in GT4 at speed.

I have, it's impossible...not just highly unlikely, but IMPOSSIBLE, to spin out the AI in GT4.

Tried racing again with a different lineup, and I couldn't even beat the FINA McLaren. Ended up 2 sec. back at the end of the race, but by drafting him the whole time, ended up 3 sec faster than my previous attempt.

Oh yeah, it's not just rear end grip either, they just have an insane amount of stick to the track, it's completely pathetic.

And the amount of understeer in the cars we drive is pathetic as well. When you use an e-brake, a car will slide, yet it's still somewhat hard to flip a car around unless you fling it back and forth first. And don't get me started on suspension tuning... :grumpy: I have no idea how they could go so wrong after being so much more right.

Still haven't had a go at this, will get to it in the next couple of days though.

Well, after reading all of this, I'm wondering if I should be grumpy about being in only 3rd by the end of the first lap, and not getting into first before the 5th turn on lap two, then just running away from the field ?

Am still working on the opening laps, trying to get a few more seconds off there, have the lap times down a bit .... which all means that I'm about a half a lap behind my partner :scared:

Don't tell stupid things,J.R.!Half lap means about 50 seconds...can't do that...only if I had a C-130 Hercules starting rocket package applicated to my Supra. 💡
I haven't run yet, maybe I will race today in the evening or so.It seems difficult to win the qualifying here...plus I don't like Motegi very much :nervous: ...well,we will see.

Yeah... I'm working on it right now. I think I'm just going to do one race, doesn't matter if I have any penalties, or whatever, as I know it's going to be slow regardless. And you don't get points in quali anyway unless you're in the top 5, which I KNOW I can't be, so yeah.

I just don't want the extra 10 seconds added on to my race time.

And, I'm doing a 199pt race here, that SUCKS. It's hard enough to begin with, but this car just pushes when you get back on the gas, I hate it, and this track especially doesn't like it. Blah.

I got one run done, not very happy with it. Didn't even pass all cars but managed couple of mid 1'43s.

Lol, uhm, maybe I'll try that again. I had one lap in the 1'45s, the rest were quite a bit worse... :p

Nah, that sounds about right. Sometime you can get lucky with the grid or the AI makes a mistake, but generally it's gonna be difficult to take the lead on the opening lap here.

The joy of rolling starts...

199, you lucky dog, I'm at 200 and the AI's are all out to get me!!! I really don't think they like me, especially the Mac, he loves to get on my bumper on either the left or right then nudge me off the track. He then usually passes me about lap 5, he just gets faster every lap!

Lucky all of you. I get DREs on Motegi, which prevents me from even submitting a slow time. I guess I won't submit this round then...

No Disk Read Error's from me, just Driver Errors! :banghead:

This is one Hella hard quali round Eats!

It's impossible with the line-up I'm getting to win! And hellish hard to stay in second!

You are a sadist my friend!

Neil

This is crazy, I want to see the replay of someone taking the lead on 2nd lap (I did that once when I chose wrong tires).
It looks like I'm getting only two different lineups.
