JGTC S4 Round 5 Qualif + Results

I've had three different line-ups, and only tried to line up three times... I MAY be able to get into first place by the second lap on some of the line-ups, but I like the one I'm currently on. I don't think I'll get into first until the third lap or so though, MAYBE second if I hit everything right, but I'm not planning on that.

I found a lineup where I got in second by the 2nd. lap, but my overall time was slower. There's one particular lineup where if I stay consistant I can draft on most straights while slowly making my way to 2nd. place by finish, with a faster time. I've run this 7 or 8 times and my total times are 3 seconds apart so I think I've hit the wall so to speak.
I've actually enjoyed the competition with the AI's, for the most part!!!

****ing bull****. I'm so pissed right now it's not funny.

I can't believe I wasted so much of my time on this. In****ingsane.

Submitting something probably near two minutes off of a resonable pace for me.(not by choice)

This is crazy, I want to see the replay of someone taking the lead on 2nd lap (I did that once when I chose wrong tires).
It looks like I'm getting only two different lineups.
It's not easy to pass here in some places, yet others are perfect as the AI tend to brake excessively for some corners.

For me:

1. Pass the Esperante for 5th on the inside of turn 5 (the first hairpin) when he brakes about a second too early.

2. Pass the Zonda for 4th on the exit of turn 6 (he lifts off in the middle of this corner and I'm able to breeze past him on the outside as he sweeps to the right for turn 7).

3. Pass the GT-R Concept and the Z together for 2nd place into the inside of turn 11 (where they all brake faaaaar too much).

4. Pass the Ford GT on the inside of turn 1 on lap 2 for the lead.

Done this a few times now. Granted, the 3rd overtake sometimes ends in tears if the AI get alongside each other, but I only had a couple of restarts.

Time submitted. Good luck all 👍

I'm in the same boat as you are Kyle. This had to be the most frustrating race I've ever been in. The AI settings here really blew. There was NO WAY to win this race. I'm sorry, but this sucked hard. being punted off the course on every turn, and being so skittish around them that you can't get good laps in.
Once the 1st and 2nd place cars were 10s ahead, and the other cars weren't a worry to get punted (about lap 4), I was going 1s faster EACH LAP.

Not a rip at you EV4L, but this sucked. AI 9, or maybe RM tires on them, would have been nice.

I had the following lineups
Ford GTLM SpecII
Pagani Zonda LM
Nissan GTR Concept LM
Panoz Esperante GTR1
and these two would switch out
Dodge Viper GTS & BMW McLaren F1

I feel everyones pain here!

This has been, without doubt, the suckiest quali round so far!
The AI were:
A) Too fast
B) Too grippy
C) Too AI-ish ( )
For this to be anything other than a complete grind to do!

I did a quick re-run, just 20 mins ago, and managed to improve.

But my line-up never varied in composition (cars in the line-up), only the power and placing they had varied.
Alway,
Ford GT LM race car spec II
Nissan GT-R Concept LM Race Car
Pagani Zonda LM Race Car
BM McLaren F1 GT Race Car
Panoz Esperant GTR LM Race Car

I finished 7 seconds behind the Nissan, and could maybe see 2 seconds tops in the race, that I lost in the corner b4 the underpass on L5, but that's it!

Ah well!

Times sent to Eats.

Good luck all!

Neil

Best of luck everyone. :)

Now that I haven't had GT4 on the mind for a few hours, I can explain because I've settled down a bit.

I spent probably two-three hours on this round's qualifier, but I didn't have time to play anymore, so I was just trying to get something decent in this morning. I sat down for about an hour, and was expecting to have something within a half an hour. Well, first race I completed, not too bad, but no where near fast, or even decent really. Let's say, about a 1'46, or 1'47 lap average overall. On lap in the 1'45s, the rest were up above. So, I sat down to do it again. Go, crash into AI/get forced off the track/understeer off the track/etc. Restart, restart, restart, RESTART, RESTART... WTF?! Then, I was like screw it, I REALLY don't have time to waste on this! And did my submitted race(wait, aren't we supposed to be qualifying? :grumpy:). My submitted race consists of maybe one clean lap, and in the 1'46 range. I had a 1'58 lap, a 1'50 lap, a 1'54 lap, and who knows what else. It was insanely pathetic, but that's what I submitted. What really got me is I was doing a good one, and was about to pass the first place car(the GTR Concept) on the third lap(might've been towards the end of the second? dunno), but he came up alongside me on the exit and forced me off the track and into the sand. Damn Motegi!

And wow, you guys are racing against some decently faster cars than I...

Anyway, as I know most of you already know, but this form of "qualifying" is completely bogus to me. Doesn't make any sort of sense to do multiple laps, nor race with the AI. I don't know about the real JGTC, but in most other forms of racing I think of qualifying as a flying hotlap where you're the only one on the track, and if there's someone else out there, they don't get in your way what so ever. If we were just doing hotlaps for qualifying, I could whip something out in an hour, no matter what the track, that I'm at least somewhat satisfied with. For the race week, we cut the race time down from 50+minutes to just over 40, which was nice, but then we added a TON of time onto the qualifying, IMO. And I don't really have the time to be racing JGTC at all...

One more thing... Not allowing the weight penalties for qualifying doesn't make much of any sense to me either. Slower people/cars should NEVER get a chance to at points the way it's setup this season. I think the complaint with last season was that the really fast drivers were losing their chances at competing at the top for qualifying, but that was more the cause of how the weight penalty was working out, no?

Anyway, I hate that the NSX is so "challenged", and I hate how the developers could screw up the AI sooo badly, and I hate how the suspension tuning is no where near as good as it used to be in previous versions. :ouch:

Please !
So, it's a tough track, with the AI setting where the race is going to be anyway.
I'm not picking on you Kyle, as there are others that haven't been happy with this week.
I for one, am thrilled that we are running the qual like this. I like the challenge. It took me awhile to get into first place on the opening lap this week. And if I can do it, lord knows the quick guys are doing it pretty easily.

Nobody said running JGTC was easy, and not one person that I know of will say that Eats' isn't a twisted little lad :sly:

Am I the only one who thought it wasn't hard this week and even considering the AI with the settings used? Motegi is for sure harder than your typical track but I didn't get a super challenge (like previously said here) from the AI...I just passed and they were gone.

You improved by a very large margin (driving skills/speed) oldphart since the first time you joined us. Thumbs up on the work. 👍

I don't have a problem with this qualifying format. Lots of real life series have a sprint race and then main race.
I found passing AI tough this week (finished in second place).
Weight adjustment for qualifying round sounds like a good idea to me.

YES,I AGREE!!!
I said it a long time before.
J.R. scored many-many points in the DTM for the team. 👍
At the beginning of our team history in the DTM he was a 1.5 seconds per lap behind the top times in the qualifying, but used everytime a good strategy in the race (and already ran very consistent lap times and so he was conserving the tires). At the end I needed to be afraid of him... and kept my eyes on him... :nervous: he was crawling up from behind. :indiff:
And then came the LMS-series with the Ford GT with oldphart behind the wheel.Very good finishes all the time and the first WIN.
And now we are in the JGTC,the hardest series in the GTPlanet and J.R. shows real potential to a very good position in the championship. 👍 👍 👍

And about the qualifying: I really enjoyed it.This was a real challenge. 👍 One thing is sure: it wasn't easy at all.
Congrats to Zeratul for the pole.Again. :)

Same here, I didn't find the AI particularly distressing. I will admit that the usual "stick to their line no matter what" is perhaps more evident in some turns here than at other tracks (like the exit of turn 9), but you just have to know/learn what they're gonna do and act accordingly.

@KLR142: I suspect because you were rushed and encountered some problems with the AI early on, you got frustrated quickly. First rule of racing IMO: a frustrated driver makes mistakes. Been there, done that, so I know how you feel...it just gets worse as you go on. Either calm yourself down, or take a break and try again when you have more time.

When I started out, I often had to remind myself when struggling with the AI to "race the track, not the competition". If you focus too much on the AI in front of you, you're not watching your line and you will commit silly errors. Motegi's a tough track and the AI are fast here. There are limited overtaking opportunities, but those that exist are good ones because the AI overbrake. Prime overtaking zones are turns 5, 11, and 13, with opportunities in turns 1, 6, and 10. Places I would never attempt an overtake here would be turns 3, 4, 7, 8, and 14. Also, never take the outside line here, they will bump you into the sand so fast you won't know what happened.

Anyway, just some constructive advice :)

Yeah, it's true. I just didn't have enough time to race. If we were doing hotlaps, I would've been fine. :sly:

But yes, I wasn't aware that it's impossible to pass on the outside, until I tried doing it in a good race and I got screwed over. Then it was over for me and actually being able to race worth a darn, but I didn't have a choice.

Thanks for the construction.

No sweat 👍

General rule of thumb though: don't pass on the outside unless you're a) good, b) sure, and c) just a little crazy :sly:

Well, generally I'm some of A and some of C, but I just didn't have enough time into the combo to be B...

:)

I think we are all good, and definately more than a 'little' crazy, and I am absolutely sure of that! :D
