In my recent trend of highlighting and offering discussions on race teams, I've done Risi Competizione and Prodrive so far. Let's welcome another entrant- Joest Racing.

FOR MORE INFORMATION: http://www.joest-racing.de/web/start/index.php?sprache=e

Joest Racing was founded by Reinhold Joest. This team has history not only in sportscar racing, but also the Deutche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (DTM). Joest Racing was the team that had many of us hating them because they kept winning all the races, if not the Audi R8's themselves. This team has been around since 1978. I'd surely say that Reinhold Joest should likely be Hall of Fame material, if he isn't already. His team has won the June classic (24 Hours of Le Mans) over seven times, and may damn near win eight this year.

He's the head of the Joest Racing Audi A4 DTM effort. The team had to completely strip down the car to make the car perform better. The DTM is mostly a AMG Mercedes-Benz showcase, but I'm sure he'll bring the fight to the Mercedes-Benz crews to make a huge Audi Sport campaign.

This team is strapped with Audi power. Dare to challenge them? Better bring it! Meanwhile, you're free to talk about Joest Racing here.

Yeah, I mainly know of Joest Racing from the DTM 94-95 seasons where they were racing the Opel Calibra, damn sexy car that is.

Alas now they are running the Audi's in the DTM, and I hardly get to see the DTM races on english tv.

Plus, they were one of the few teams to beat the factory Porsches at Le Mans when they won in 1985. (The factory team was absent when Joest won in 1984.) So for all these people who whine and complain that they can't beat the factory cars, look at Joest. With a good team, it can be done.

The Joest guys may as well be elected into the hall-of-fame, every one of 'em!!! Those guys changed an entire rear-end on an R8 in like... four minutes at Le Mans!!!

I remember watching Speedvision's 2000 Le Mans coverage when they did that. The announcers had been talking about Audi's/Joest's ability to do that in practice. And when one of the cars pulled into the garage in the middle of the night, and the Joest mechanics started on the change, you could tell that was an important moment in sports car racing history.

Of course, no one else had the ability/will to emulate Audi, so the ACO had to ban the quick change. 👎
