Alright, so whenever i play online I only play against people from Japan. If you have the JP version, can you play online against the US?

while time trial and drift trial ranking boards are universal, online multiplayer is restricted to players who have the same regional copies of GT5P. so in a way, having the JP version will not allow you to play against players who own, for instance, EU or NA version of GT5P.

hope this helps!

Thats not true, because i live in japan and ive played people online from the US and australia, hongkong, korea, and taiwan, and also someone with a country code that said DW...any idea were that could be?

Maybe they were all playing the JP version as well ?

The online matchups are split by regional copy of the game. People's country tags are dictated by what country their PSN ID is.
So, someone could have a US PSN ID and play the Japanese NTSC version of the game, but it would not mean that all versions of the game can play each other.

the way i see it when i play my jpn version using my US acct i play with people from Japan mostly and my name will have the (US) part... if I play with my (JP) acct same thing, and since the USA PSN version doesnt let you play with different accounts then you are stuck with people of the US copy of the game.

Each Region of the game lets you race in that regions servers... only reason you see (jp) (us) (ca) and what not is because thats in the PSN account info..
