Jumpy mouse pointer

My mouse pointer is jumping, but it does it with both my trackball and the touchpad. Is there a driver for the pointer itself? Just wondering if I'm outdated, if not, what else could be causing it to jump? I've done a clean with CCleaner, just about to do a Spyware/AV clean, and will de-frag tonight.

I haven't done a clean install in about 3 years, and I think my overloaded desktop isn't helping.

Nah, fixed it. Avast! had buggered up my system - somehow - gone back to my trusted Nod.
