Hello,

I am new here. I've been using a gamestop wheel for over a year. I decided to go out and buy the DFGT this past saturday. I love this wheel and was definitely a much needed upgrade. However, I am already thinking about mods. Gran Turgismo paddles and a g25 pedal set off ebay. I was thinking at this point should I just return it and buy a G27? I only play Gran Turismo 5 and just started getting back into since GT Academy 2012. I will probably begin to play other sims also.

Thanks.

If you can afford the G27, I say do it. You can't mod a clutch pedal or H-shifter to work with a DFGT, and I'd say they're worth more than the other mods you can do to a DFGT.

There are lots of people who prefer a DFGT over a G27 (leaving out the pedals).

If you can buy a set of G27 pedals and wire them so that they can be plugged into your wheel base and if you also get the Gran Turgismo paddle shifters your DFGT will become a completely different wheel. You will not regret it and you will also get that unique satisfaction of modding something you like and turning it into something even better. I myself run with a DFGT + Paddle shifters + ECCI pedals.

I'll tell you what you'll regret... losing that myriad of buttons the DFGT has once you upgrade to the G27.

I think the buttons on the wheel will only be missed if you have gotten use to having them. I have never had a dfgt with gt5, but never once said to myself, I was I had more buttons. Now that the g series is supported in gt5 its only a couple extra buttons anyway. Not that there is anything wrong with a dfgt.

I went from a DFGT to a G27 and I've loved the switch. My DFGT had the granturgismo paddles and bungee corded pedals. The extra $100 I spent on the G27 was well worth the smoother action of the wheel, the better feel of the pedals, and the fact that it is much quieter than the DFGT.

Don't get me wrong, the lower model is a GREAT wheel, and I wasn't even thinking about getting another wheel until I found out that the G27 was going to be supported for GT5.

As far as the buttons go, my G27 has been mapped so that it has all of the functions of the DFGT.

I personally don't feel like the lack of buttons is a big deal, I can't think of any controls except for look left/right/behind and flash headlights that need to be accessed often and quickly enough in a race for them to need to be on the wheel. I agree that once you're used to them it's hard to lose them again (I went from DFP to G27), though, but you get used to it quickly.

I've only had the dfgt for 3 days. I'm still getting used to all the buttons. However, I dont think I would be using the H pattern shifter much if I had it. I think the dfgt is a good wheel but I wanted better pedals. I've seen the bundgee cord and squash ball mods, but figured since I just bought it, I could return it. How much do the ecci pedals cost?

It's a never ending cycle of upgrades and wanting more. I would recommend the G27 over the DFGT if you can afford it. My biggest complaint with the G27 was having the Dpad, start button and others away from the wheel. Other than that I thought it was great. As always, I recommend NIXIM modding the brake pedal for an even better feel.

Yeah, I'm going to buy a G27 soon (kinda waiting on the price to get a bit lower like it was before), and I think that's what I'll miss from my DFGT. It seems that the G27 is designed for and targeted more at the PC and they made it also work on the PS2/PS3, whereas the DFGT is the other way around. I guess they figured having a D-pad on the wheel isn't as crucial, since on the PC you're more likely to have to reach for the mouse to navigate the game's interface, and it detracts from the authentic look a little bit (to that end, they made the buttons generic on the G27).

The G27 (as far as I can tell) doesn't have a PS button either, but that's not a big deal because you need to use a controller to power on the console anyway. And you need a controller to really use Photo Mode, since a wheel doesn't have analog sticks to move the camera around.

I have a g27 with nixim and love it. I velcro'd an old ps3 controller to the center of my wheel ages ago before support. Now after its supported I still have it there. I have twice as many buttons as dfgt! 2 years old still going strong!

Modded DFGT Vs. G27?

I'd say modded G27 :D. I've only had a brief experience with the DFGT back at some auto expo (Ah! Those days when we were in heaven when getting to play a GT5 demo!!!) and I didn't liked it much. The G27 feels better, in my opinion, even if you gave the DFGT the same pedals and some paddles. The leather feels nice and you got moarrr buttons, which is great for PC sims. You also get something you can't get in a DFGT which is an H-gate shifter+clutch pedal, something that's great fun and absolute necessity for heel-toe driving.

And as for mods, they range from $30 to...well, thousands. Just google ARC racing, or visit Derek Speare Designs and you'll see what I'm talking about. Personally, my budget is somewhat narrow so I've only modded my G27 with a GTeye brake spring, and it's been so far a great mod.

If you'll have to spend more money on the DFGT, just return it and get the G27. They say it's smoother and faster, but they also say DFGT has a stronger feedback and makes you feel more the road (I have only the DFGT, so can't confirm, but they say that FF 10 on G27 equals FF 3 on DFGT, it would be nice if other switchers could confirm this).
