its an amzing game and an amazing console (PS2) and the exhaust notes are extremely corect, but i need a memory card so i can play GT mode and save my work, what is the best car to spend my £18,000 on? thanks guys,

and if sukerkin (met you on www.pistonheads.com, im 'theviperman'): hi! i'll e-mail u soon :)

Welcome aboard!!!

I think a lot of people here started with the Trueno - another option is to complete Arcade mode and win the Esperante!

Welcome to GT Planet theViperMan

I recommend the :mazda: MX-5 to start with, but others used the :chrysler: PT Cruiser :D

good god - the pt cruiser is such a p.o.s.

go for the trueno, it's the chepaest modder.
i.e., you can make it faster with less $$.

Cool theviperman!! :)

I wish I had just bought GT3 yesterday, the first few GT3 days are just heavenly! Where you still have to discover certain aspects of the game and tuning characteristics and when the really nice cars still "wow" you! :D

Have fun! ;)

Welcome to GTP viperman
Start with the Trueno. If you need any help with the game we are here and dont worry you will have trouble.

Hey, welcome to another Viper fan.

I recommend starting with a Miata, not the Trueno, because the Trueno is one of the first cars you will win anyway.

Search for the "what car for a rookie" thread from last week - there were several longer answers there.

I know what u will say...

Are u ****ing kidding?

Yeah, I would have said that when I got GT3.
The best way to spend those 18,000 cr is not to spend it.
Just spend some time on license B and try to get all golds, then u will get a nice Miata LS for free. :D

I just started over myself and get the 16,900 cr. Miata. Change the oil. In a matter of 90 mins I got this babe up to 282 hp.

Welcome to the Planet.
I used the Toyota Vitz for my first car and modified it to run 319 hp and it still has the most miles of all the cars I now own. :)
Its a good car and will win you many races.
Its a best buy for the low dollars you spend, you can now spend on performance parts.
Good luck.

i can get bronze's and silvers piss easy but golds are hard, but its worth spending the time trying to get the golds, but i still need to get a mem card, theyre £27!!!!!- wot a rip off!!
(thats about $45)!

Glad your enjoying your PS2 and GT3. As a first car to buy, I'd choose the Toyota Trueno, though I originally chose the Miata which served me well (until I won the Trueno, after which I never drive the Mazda again until I needed it for the Miata Enduro). Good luck with the game, it does get tough!

Welcome to GTP!

I'm with misnblu - go for the Vitz/Yaris RS! Even though its FWD it holds its own in a LOT of races!

Mind you - all golds in the B license does give you that MX-5 (mentioned above) and thats probably the best start you could make in the game as a novice.

Welcome to GT Planet theviperman

If you shop around you can pick up Mem Card at £25? Or cheaper versions are available (non Sony) But you usually have to use an extra disc before you start the game :D

Hi theviperman! Glad to see that you finally made it into the world of the GT3 addicts! I was begining to think that you'd given up on the idea of getting your hands on a PS2 (quite a bit of cash to fork out to play just one game).

You'll find that as I suggested this forum is a good place for getting info and opinion on all things GT3 and has a friendly atmosphere with newbies only very occaisionally getting singed!

As to what starting car you should pick, the above posts have pretty much covered all the bases. I went with the MX5 as it is about the only FR you can get in the beginning. The Trueno is a viable option but I much prefer the MX5 - it's not necessarily better but it is much prettier!

Whatever car you pick, make sure you stay in the Beginner level races for quite a while until you've had chance to either tune it up or have won/bought a more powerful vehicle. GT3 is somewhat more challenging than GT2 and if you leap into the higher class races too soon you'll find yourself in difficult territory. Take advantage of the time you have right now, when you haven't got a memory card, to get some practice in and develop a feel for how the game differs from GT2.

Two big hints. 1) If you don't already, use at least analogue steering (and throttle/brakes too if you can) - the degree of control you get is much finer. 2) When the money starts coming in don't be tempted by the softer compound racing tyres - they do have bags of grip and can do wonders for your lap times but they wear out so fast they're of no practical use when you get into the higher leagues with their longer races.

hi sukerkin, yeah, i got an MX-5 and gradually upgraded it and now ive got a racing RS200 (IS200) but i havent got a memorey card yet and have to keep starting again and again! -
its practice i suppose! but ive had allok at the cerbera SP12 and my jaw dropped for about 5 minutes! and wouldnt close back up! those differnent special paint schemes are wicked!
P.S sukerkin: have you seen the TVR tuscan behind brassingtons in newcastle-u-lyme yet?

The Speed 12 does look rather special in the new paintwork doesn't it  ? Because they've basically used the 'road car' rather than the race version it's not as great as it should be but still quite capable of winning PRO level races in the right hands.

Unfortunately you have to win it (you can't buy it) and it's one of four prize cars in the Tuscan Challenge. The others are Griffith 500's in various colours. I had to do this race series 12 times (appropriate to win the 12 I suppose) before I got one. I won nine blue, one red and one silver Griffith along the way, which was not so bad except that the resale value was very low (wish I could get a real 'unused' Griffith for the money they were offering!).

As for the Tuscan up in 'Castle, I still haven't made it up there for a drool - one day ...

OH MY GOD that trueneo or what ever they call that heap of a car its an awful car, it handles like a slow bus with excess understeer, the miata or MX-5 is better but igve now got an IS200

AND can someone ansew me this q: is it OK to leave a PS2 switched on over night?

Should be ok to leave it on overnight 'viper. Just make sure that the cooling fans working and the vents at the back aren't blocked. I've had mine in use for 24 hours at a stretch with no ill effects (to the PS2 that is!). You're going to have a struggle until you get your memory card though. Try asking your folks for a loan (just wear your best 'poverty struck' expression; you never know it might just work!)

How's the IS200? I can't recall ever having driven it.

By the way, one of your best bets for some easy early cash is to win something you can use in the rally events. The AI is really quite poor at these and as long you have something reasonably competative you can toast it easily. I used a Lancer VII GSR I won (tuned to the max I have to admit) and although it handled like a dog (entry understeer and snap oversteer on exit) whupped ass for the Lord.

sukerkin- the IS200 is a good car, but ive got a 652BHP tuscan speed six now in carmeleon paint, and guess what, i entered the tuscan challenge, and won every race, and they rewarded me with a ****ing speed 12!!!! im well chuffed, its yellow though! but its bloody fast! exept the ****in dredful, and i mean dreadful understeer, but it does have 1003BHP and all modifacations! my PS2 has been switched on for 3 days now non-stop! and everything is working perfectly, the fan is perfect and nothing is getting hot, infact its quite cold! happy GT3'ing ppl!
