Its weird and I can barley control the car let alone win a basic race, I had to go back to the joypad to get my daily GT5 fix.

A little worried I may have wasted my money but I'll keep trying it, anyone else find it difficult at first?

Great forum by the way.

It definitely takes some practice to get used to a wheel, but is great when you get the hang of it. I would just start out going slow in a time trial without competitors. Keep going on the same track and you should see your times get better and better. Eventually you should be better with a wheel than a controller and you will have a blast.

A decent place to mount the wheel is pretty essential in my experience. I couldn't use my wheel until I bought a proper(ish) mount for it. If money's tight, pick up a Ridgid Flip-top work table from Home Depot. This thing works perfectly for me.

It will definitely take time to get used to as well. I'm still not as fast as I was with a ds3, and can't catch slides well at all, but once you get the hang of using a wheel, you won't go back. It adds so much immersiveness to the game.

I have the same problem if I try to use a controller to race, as I have only ever used a wheel. As ICallShotgun mentioned - the mount is critical. Try to make it as stable as possible and position yourself as best you can to simulate a real driving position.

I have been using a DFGT since GT5 was launched and the experience was greatly enhanced by expanding the springs in the pedal base. That gives a lot more resistance and makes throttle and brake control a lot easier. Do a search here and you'll find lots of info on that. Stick with it and once you get used to it you'll never go back to a controller.
