So I want to use it now and not have to spend more money on yet another lock...I cannot find the paper anywhere telling me what the combination was.

It's just a basic Master 39 number lock.

So how can I bust the code? :)

I didn't bother to read the whole page, but, hey...it has a video. I also didn't watch the video.

Edit: Apparently, you just need to sit back, enjoy a beer and partake in some origami.

A pair of bolt cutters? Of course, that would render the lock useless... :p

If you forgot your code, you would have to shim it open every single time. That sucks. Might as well go buy a keylock.

A new lock is only $5, or you could get one from the Dollar Store for $1 if you don't mind going to low quality route. In my opinion, having to shim open the lock every time you want whats behind it is not worth the $5 you save from reusing an old lock.

I have two or three unused combo locks at home; to ease the confusion, now I just use the type of lock that have keys.

Well, if you go down to the hardware store, they can call MasterLock or the lock manufacturer for you, and give you the combo. We did that a few times. They even did it for free!

I was in the same situation years ago. Unfortunately, we didn't have internet back then(at least not like the one we have now ;) ), so I missed out on all these brilliant advices found in this thread. :p

got some free time? start spinning! You will get it eventually!

Interesting.... and not a little bit ironic...

If you can find a way to bust the code, you can use the lock, but you'll have just proved that the lock is not worth using, because you were able to bust the code. If you can't bust the code, then it's clearly a good lock, and so you should keep it, but you won't ever be able to use it...

If it's a 4 number combo, you should be able to find the code eventually... 9999 possible combos, one combo a second, would take you three hours without a break

Actually, it should be a 40 number lock with 3 numbers making up the combination.

Edit - 64,000 possibilities?

God forbid you'd have to shed 4 bucks for a new one
