So I've been insured under my uncle's (by marriage) brother's State Farm agent on my Shelby. On top of the public road insurance, they insure me on the track because I run non-wheel to wheel racing with a car club. The e-mail I just got was that while my and everyone else's premiums will be staying the same, effective immediately, they will be stopping any coverage for on-track incidents/accidents/damage in any type of track activity be it wheel to wheel, touring, high speed touring or parade laps.

I'm surprised they provided any type of on-track coverage in the first place.

So now you're back to the same type of coverage that 99% of the world would normally have in the same situation.

I don't see the problem.

Almost every major insurance company like Allstate etc provide it iirc. Would be less annoying if they were to make my policy cheaper for less coverage.

But driving school and car club days are meant to make you a better driver like you would think an insurance company would like.

You do realize they also increase the chances of something being broken/an accident happening with the car, something your insurance agency doesn't want to cover.

Like PB said, I don't see any problem.

Yeah, I don't see a problem. Private companies hold the right to change their policies, and it probably says that in your contract.

I'm actually astounded that they covered that in the first place. Maybe back in the 50s and 60s when everyone drag raced on the streets, but these days that kind of coverage is just absurd coming from a big company like that. I don't even expect coverage on aftermarket parts in an accident that isn't my fault--I had to haggle and argue and put those poor employees through hell to get what I wanted from the Del Sol.

I would be surprised if any major carrier covers HPDEs anymore. I know my policy with GEICO doesn't. From what I've heard, the entire industry is moving to adopt language which specifically excludes any event on a track.

I've used these guys for track insurance: http://hpdeins.locktonaffinity.com/Default.aspx

Haven't had to make a claim yet (knocks on wood) so I don't know how they are in that regard. Pricey though.

It's because

and before anyone starts the driver has a race licence and does race.

I do see this as an issue. I cannot fathom how they managed to not charge you more to cover you on the track.

I think a phone call is in order. First, it was an email so get it confirmed by your agent. And then ask why they are dropping coverage. It may be that there is a new company-wide policy going into effect this year. And follow up by asking how this isn't reducing your cost.

At worst he stands by what the email says without budging and you know you should shop around. And even if there is no more track coverage he does have some leeway, as an individual agent, to work with you on the rate.

I'll give that a try FoolKiller. Good idea.

I guess I was just irritated that I was paying almost 3x more for the Shelby than what I pay for my other vehicles.

They're also a great place to stuff your car up.

Buy HPDE track coverage on a per-event basis from a specialty insurer. It'll cost about $100 per weekend.
