Just fixed my g27 wheel with new brass encoder wheel to replace the cracked plastic one which came with wheel originally.
Must say i am really impressed. The subtle feedback through wheel is much improved, which has had a dramatic effect on my car control as i feel it more closely represents the subtle nuances of a real car now and i can really feel the road.
The part is easy to fix if a bit fiddly if your ham fisted like myself. Youtube has great videos on how to do it.
The way the wheel is built inside things have to be done in a certain order. i noticed this was done incorrectly in the factory as one of the screws was not through the two pieces it was supposed to be through therefore putting strain on parts it shouldn't and giving the wheel a really vague feeling at the first couple of degrees of turning each direction.(maybe why wheel broke in first place as is made of pretty week plastic and because of bad fitment everything was loose around encoder).
Part comes from Thailand and i must say the service was excellent and he seemed genuinely interested in how i was getting on with it. Ended up i ordered the wrong encoder, as i apparrently was given the old g27 in the new g27 box so didnt know till part arrived and i took everything apart which one i needed. Emailed company to say what had happened and they posted the right one to me right away so i wasnt waiting to long, i then sent wrong part back. Good service.
In my opinion gt6 does its finest work as a driving simulator rather than race sim which is why i test all my cars this way....
To test the wheel i done what i always do to test a car. Took it to toyko reverse and drove as if i was on a normal road staying in correct lane to really feel the real world grip and drove like it was my car and not some track 6 lanes wide which i have no real world experience with in IRL and in my opinion doesnt really test how the cars perfom in the real world like my test does, also add i only use comfort tyres as they represent the actual real tyre and i feel i get much more control and feel with these. This is why i cant wait for sahara track because it looks like a proper road, i feel disapointed that in this driving sim there arent many roads to drive on so far.
I decide to work my way through and test the nissan skylines starting from earliest model and working through the top model in the range each year.
My god i am impressed with how different the cars all feel but also you can really feel the evolution of the model as i drove them in order each a little quicker on each corner and each new car alittle more stable than it predocessor.
Drifting i have found is now much more natural for me now also which i was struggling with in game even though i can do it IRL. Now i can really do tiny throttle and steering adjustments with confidence and feel the car like i can IRL.
I would recommend this fix for anybody as its transformed my experience of the game and brought back my love of gt again. also i must add i am sure i can feel torque steer now if i get bit eager coming out of a corner and i have never felt that untill last night.
All in all i would recommend this fix to anyone with a g27 with the calibration issues i had or even as an upgrade as the original encoder is garbage.
