Ive just got the dreaded YOLD on my fat ps3, are the new slimline ps3s less prone to this? Im gonna have to get a new one tomorrow i just thought id check.

Luckily, i have 2 usb save games for gt5 so thats ok and little else on there, im so bloody mad, friday night racing up the spout!

i had a nice little Spa online room going too

please move this if its in the wrong place, im using the Gtplanet app for android so maybe using the wrong forum

this happened to me a few days back, I fixed it but it went YLOD 2 days after, luckily this time GT5 was backed up and not stuck inside.

Best advice I can give you is get the new slim, GT5 seems to run a lot quicker on there for some reason to.

Oh and make sure you dont install the game updates, until you install GT5 from the disk onto the hardrive. I installed the updates first, and it kept causing the game to freeze when installing from disk to hardrive.

so in short, when you get the slim :

1) install game to hardrive
2) then download the updates.

hopefully it will go smoothly for you.

Ok cheers, ill turn my wifi off wen i get it, install from the disc then turn it on again to get the updates hopefully the DLC will all be there i got the full pack

VTEC just kicked in YOLD!!!!

...but in all seriousness, is this a slim PS3?

I will add, its thanks to these forums and the people on them that i wont have to start again, having learned the value of USB backups(it wouldnt really have occured to me) it wouldnt have been the end of the world by any means, but will have saved the hassle of starting from scratch.

thanks for the forums Jordan!

@endless how do i find that out, its just died an hour ago so i have it in front of me

I would suggets doing the hair dryer trick then simply doing the data transfer form one ps3 to the other. It worked for me and mine YLOD twice in 2 months.

@thefraggle whats the hair dryer trick? Im desperate i shouldnt even be on here i should be racing! (badly i might add)

youtube, YLOD fix , I think its a guy called gylsky or something similar, shows a good guide, and it worked the two times I done it, however its not long term as it breaks a few days later again. Its worth restoring it to save all your data though.

and in regards to not downloading the updates I mentioned earlier, you dont have to turn your wifi off, just click "O" circle when it prompts you to download the update.

good luck mate.

Cheers, but now ive been warned, the wifi goes off, im too absent minded to remember the o button!

@thefraggle thats bizzare, ill check to see if my GF has a hair dryer tomorrow, i can at least clear my system down of all personal data before i flog it on ebay, thats exactly the problem i have though and same ps3 version. Thanks

How do people come up with this stuff?! The mind boggles

Just been out and bought a 160gb slim, now sitting through 10 updates, the backup works though back on line soon, cheers for the replies, will try out the hair dryer trick later!

ATTN YLOD Victims! Call Sony, tell them your ps3 got the YLOD and they will replace it for $99 with a new slim model. I had a fat PS3 YLOD like 2 years ago. At the time, Sony wouldnt do anything about it, but recently i called them for something else and at the end of the call asked them if they would do anything about my dust collecting door stop PS3 and they offered to fix it for like $120 or $150, or just upgrade me to a new slim for $99. I got my new slim yesterday delivered by F X.
