I have been at my mates all weekend for his birthday and we had the most awesome weekend I have had this year other than the ones I had in Japan.
I went over on Saturday and when I rocked up my mates neighbor was ready to go "Fourbeeing" as he put it. This guy had just bought a 90 something Toyota Hilux, the 4wd version and was ready to test it out on some mountains. My mates friend rocked up with his dad in a Tuned Nissan Patrol (tuned for 4wd on the toughest tracks), after saying hello we set off. This mountain is right next to his house so we go up this one first, it was a proper 4wd track so we had a great time bumping up and down throughout it. After finishing this one we set off to a harder mountain and had another great time trying to get the Patrol through all the trees as it is wide. Both 4WD nailed the tracks so we headed home.
That night all his neighbors friends got drunk and we had one of the funniest nights I have had. Next morning (yesterday) we decided to go to a big paddock. This paddock had a large dirt oval, around 1.5km to go from start to finish and below the oval was a motocross type area with jumps and dirt tracks for bikes on it. My mates neighbor (lets call him Mitch from now on) and his friend had bought bikes along. His friend rode his bike alot more than Mitch but Mitch was driving around the top with is Hilux being an idiot and all. I asked him if he would teach me to drive manual so me and my mate hopped in and he took us to the oval. I went first and my mate jumped in the tray of the Hilux (we had been in the tray alot during the day as Mitch drove around) as it is hard to drive with three in the cabin despite it being 3 seater.
Mitch told me how to start perfectly, 2500 revs and slowly release the clutch till you feel a 'bite'. Me, having this as my first manual drive wasn't going to be perfect, and I wasn't. I tried to do it but I was a bit of a leadfoot, 5000 revs and let the clutch out quite quickly. Nonetheless I got it to go and we started with a nice loss of grip in first gear on the dirt. I got told how to change gear and did it with ease. On this oval is a few ditches and mud patches which I didn't know to well of so here I am going 60-80km/h through these ditches (not many of them) with my mate bouncing around in the tray. There were zip ties on the tray arm things (not sure what they are, structural support?) which had been cut down and on one of the bounces he cut his arm a little on it. After two laps of the oval I slowed to a stop and finally found neutral. At this point I was happy that I hadn't stalled it at all but now it was my turn in the tray. My mate had the same terrible start as me and headed around the oval, I also bounced around and had a fun time in the tray.
After him finishing his laps we let Mitch drive again and take us back down to where everyone else was. Shortly after we all headed off in various types of Hiluxs', Mitch's being the only 4WD one. I got to ride with a guy called Seb, he is one of the best drivers I have seen in my life and he is only 22. Not best as in, 'OMG he can driftzorz LOL' but best as in he can control a car incredibly well and do just about anything with it. Seb has probably been gifted driving skills and someone up above wants him to stay alive because Seb should be dead. A few years back Seb wrapped his car around a pole which should have killed him but it didn't. I don't know how he did it and I wasn't going to ask. On the way out of the paddock he does some pretty sick power parking and slides to show off and out we were on the road. On the way home was a big hill, this hill went down for about 200m and up again for about the same. We hit around 170km/h down that hill which I thought was insane but really fun. Shortly after we arrived home.
That has to be one of THE funnest weekends I have ever had, I will hopefully go back to my mates house again for more of that
. Shame he lives a good 3 hour train ride away...
