Just how big is that ship? (Sci-Fi geeks come!)

Interesting. 👍 I couldn't believe how much bigger F-14 was, compared to the X-Wing. :D

I do, the X-Wing, given the cockpit size, is just about as big as an SUV, while an F14 is enormous... even compared to other fighter aircraft.

Which then makes me wonder how fast that little thing can go (sub hyperspace) when they appear to leave a planet from the ground to beyond its gravitational pull in a matter of minutes. No wonder everyone who doesn't have some kind of contact with the force seems to die in them.

GREAT! Thanks man; seriously. I love it.

A definite favorite + rep.

This is a galaxy far far away... where planets obviously have very little gravity (hence Jedi jumping 20+ feet), low escape velocity, and atmospheres that reach out into infinity (why else would there be sound in space?)

Damn... takes a good sense of scale to wrap your head around the Ringworld.

Every time I read the novels, it strikes me as to how little of its surface anyone has explored.

The "Halo" artifact looks wrong... isn't it supposed to be a mini-ringworld?

I tried to give him reputation points, but looks like I already gave it to him on something else. It said I had to spread more points, before I can give it to him again! Keep up the good work, Elijah!

http://www.merzo.net/ This fun little site allows you to pic up images of ships and move them around to compare their size. Ships from Star Wars, Star Trek, RoboTech, Macross, Babylon 5, Farscape and many others are included.

That is pretty sweet !.. Nice find...

The site is very Graphics intensive by nature and therefore is targeted towards a higher bandwidth connection (DSL, etc). It will likely bog down dialup connections.

Awww.... :(

And I thought the X-Wing was way bigger than an SUV....

That's nothing. Many pure interceptor aircraft are significantly larger than the F-14. The prototype of the CF-105 Arrow was comprable in size to WWII bombers for instance. Mind you, it did need plenty of space for a vacuum tube computer.

Also, very cool website (in a nerdy way). I loved seeing how tiny the Death Star is compared to, the ID4 mothership for instance.

Did you guys catch Unicron in there? I almost flipped out. Just goes to show you how mch Unicron pwns the Death Star.

My Firefox didn't... actually had to go through my File Explorer (deleted my IE icon months ago).

Unicron may be big on paper, but they really messed up the scale for him in the cartoon movie. At one point, he really does seem huge, as an entire starship crashes through his eye... at another, Grimlok takes a swipe at his butt, and the scale gets all screwed up in that particular segment. (Unicron looks 1/20th his actual size in that one).

There may be interceptors bigger than the F14, but it's still one of the biggest fighters ever made. It's a truck compared to the F18s it flies alongside of. Still, a remarkable aircraft.

So, why doesn't the ID4 mothership just have one of those big primary weapons like the attack ships did? That way little upstart rebellious species like ourselves could be wiped out in a matter of minutes and there would still be all of the resources to be mined even if the planet was no longer habitable.

Of course, I also have questions of gravitational forces and such as well. OK, I'll flip my brain back off and enjoy the mindless action. Sorry for the disruption. :dopey:

Great find! I'm sure in Star Trek First Contact, Captain Pickard said that the USS Enterprise-E (Sovereign Class Federation Ship) was nearly a mile long? According to that it's only 685m, 0.685kms...

Website works in FF here.

Unless it is said by Scotty it isn't true! Afterall, he knows that ship like the back of his hand. :sly:

I remember when he said that (can't remember what moive). After he said it he walked into a beam on the ceiling and knocked himself out.

Edit: OH, and he doesn't know the Enterpise E. ;)

Yeah Scotty only ever made it onto the Enterprise D, in the episode Relics I think it was called.

Cool site, and the sizes of some of those ships is insane!!!!
awww man Godzilla pwnz the Stay Puft marshmallow man, now thats not cool!

Knowing Scotty he would be whipping out dilithium crystals and pushing the ship beyond her limits in minutes.

And while Scotty was never on the E I still only take information from Scotty as pure fact. I mean, Geordi was blind and Picard got a glare from his skull. I honestly think that even dead Scotty could quote better statistics.

OK, I will stop now.

Well, he does breathe fire. At that point I think size means nothing, especially when you consider four guys with proton guns could toast his butt (That's what you get for stepping on a church).

Damn... just looking at that... They should have had a Ghostbusters III... Stay Puft vs. the Statue of Liberty. That would've been fun to watch... they're about the same size (excluding Lady Libby's base).

OK, something isn't right with King Kong. I know I saw him fight Godzilla and they were roughly the same size. Is he using the new King Kong size or is Godzilla too big?

Okay, I will go back in the corner now. :dunce:

They totally fuxxored up his size in that camp Godzilla vs. King Kong movie.

In the original Kong, King Kong was also kind of big... he wasn't strictly to scale in the Empire State Building shots (I think), as he was supposed to be just big enough for a girl to fit in his hand. Godzilla, on the other hand, has always been as big as a building.
