So I have been using my G25 for games such as Midnight Club and NFS for a while and I finally bought GT5P yesterday...

What a difference!

This is my first excursion into the world of true simulations and I have to say I am loving it so far. As of now I have all assists turned off and TCS set to 0. The learning curve has been pretty steep. I have golds on almost all the C-Class events (the Cappuccino event is driving me insane).

My question to you veterans is what tracks/cars do you suggest I run a ton of times to really hone my cornering and shifting skills? (I recently discovered that holding triangle at the race start enables the clutch)

Any general advice or tips are greatly appreciated. Looking forward to a long time of excellent gaming.

One of the greatest things you can learn is braking. For a simple exercise, grab a rear wheel drive car with some S1's. Go into a corner at a speed that which you can make it around safely. Then well in mid corner, mess around with how much brake you are giving it so you can control the ass end well braking mid corner. It's a useful little exercise.

I dunno if you can change this but on Eiger using the G25 feels like like I'm not in control as the wheel centres itself...

It's probably how I hold the wheel, can anyone help?

Also I find the brake pedal pretty hard to press, which means I have to switch to paddle gear changes so I have a foot on both the accelerator and brake pedal at all time.

Real cars are more comfy for me...

I think Suzuka being very techincal is a good track to drive a lot :) if you can go fast on Suzuka you'll go fast at Daytona Road and Fuji as well IMO....

Try eiger or suzuka. One of the cheaper cars that you have access to now will do alot more to help you than the ferraris and other expensive cars (in my opinion). The rx8 and teggy type R are both very good cars for this (I started with the RX8 but some start with the integra) as is the Evo IX. Cheap thrills - but bang for you buck.

Practice braking speeds and corners. A good entry will set you up for a good corner.

Practice practice practice. When learing that next level of speed in any GTs, it's amazingly fraustrating for some - and it's usually very early on in the game that some people transferring from NFS go back to NFS - so it's very promising that you are embracing it! 👍

Hope to see you round here more often:tup:

Hi RTSandel23.

Welcome to GTPlanet.

If you want to learn control speed, cornering braking and so on, go to any time trial pick one of the top 10 replays to download. Then go to Account management by pressing the PS button, press triangle and sign out, now go back to your time trial.

You can now follow this downloaded ghost till your heart is content, if you can manage to beat all these, you will now truly be a master. Even if you can’t, it’s a good way to learn all the other things you wish to master, no top of that you’ll be one of the cleanest drivers on GT5p.

Have fun look forward to seeing you on track.

Phillip.

Why sign out? You can just download the ghost and then race against it.

Why not sign out when the question was.

Quote. “My question to you veterans is what tracks/cars do you suggest I run a ton of times to really hone my cornering and shifting skills?”

If it was how would one set the fastest time trials, then the suggestion would be different.

I can understand what your saying, but it’s a more logical choose and he’ll be able to concentrate more on honing his skills, than being punted off the track.

Thank you all so much for the responses guys. I am still loving the game. My biggest challenge so far has definitely been oversteer/understeer and my propensity to overcompensate when things start to go south. I am guessing that the ability to quickly get yourself out of trouble simply comes with experience.

I will definitely be trying the downloading of time trial ghosts when I get off work tonight, that sounds about perfect for what I need. Is there a way to search the replays for only those with a specific car in order for a good comparison? Also, can you just watch the replays? I kind of want to just watch their gear selection/throttle and brake levels.

Thanks again everyone. Keep the tips coming, they are all greatly appreciated.

Hi RT.

Time trial is set, you choose the car you want, enter the TT and race as is.

why I said go off line is you dont have to consern yourself the beating the time set, just work on gears, braking and so on. you'll soon find after 10 or 20 laps round say London, what gear, where to brake.

if you want to start setting times then do it on line, thats up to you, but as you said you want to work on perfecting your wheel controll, i think that would be a good way to go.

Phillip.

HINT on this one - use a manual transmission and short shift it,you'll be wearing a gold medal in no time with it.

BTW - Welcome to GTPlanet - enjoy.

You should be able to view each of the top 10 lap times as a replay, in addition to downloading the ghost.
