I just had a tie in B Spec mode @ Indy. It gave me the win and the win by .001 trophy. I wasn't fast enough with my cam to snap a pic but I did save the replay. I'm just happy I got my tropy. Just in case anyone was wondering if it it's possible it is but it will give you the win.
 
crazy finish. my closes was .009 on the Top Gear Lotus Elise challenge

I didn't. #'s were the exact same but it still gave me the trophy

You won the race by a time that is not on the standard x:xx.xxx but one digit further and it is rounded up. The game usually gives you the win there because of quicker reflexes than the AI.
I remember I had a tie in GT4 but the result was probably closer than one digit further as the game rewarded me with a 5 second win.

Semantics... you'd need to measure to a molecular level to be assured of finding a true tie in any point-to-point race.

The times showed the same therefore the difference (presuming that a difference WAS measured by the game) was less than 0.001.

Even in real life that would be classed as a tie... at least until such a time as timing resolutions increase to an accuracy of 0.0001s.
