This may only be of relevance to UK members, but there's a "song tagging" service called Shazam (www.shazam.com).
If you hear a song that you like but you don't know what it is, and you want to know, you dial 2580 on your mobile, and ensure that the microphone on your mobile can hear the track (they advise loudness). The service llistens for about 20 seconds, then dumps the call automatically. About 5 seconds later, you get a text message with the artist, song title and an album that it's available on.
You can log into the web site and see every song you've ever 'tagged', and you can do funky stuff like send a recording of the song to a mate.
I tried it with a couple of obscure dance tracks that were on a mix album that I had downloaded (so was one complete 74-minute track). Once I had the tags, I downloaded the songs that were tagged, and in both cases Shazam had been right.
Mightily impressive service. 👍
