...and I highly disagree with 99% of the critics (who are, in fact, way too critical).
Been wanting to see it after I saw the previews, but just eventually forgot about it (not a major movie-watcher). Recently remembered it after surfing the net (no, I wasn't looking for what you're thinking...perverts).
First thoughts from the previews was that it was a (rather hot--I may add
) girl fighting swarms of robots and zombies.
Watched it the first time, liked it, but was rather confused (especially the ending...thank you Google). Second time I started to understand it more, and the third time I pretty much fully understood it (yes, it was worth watching more than once).
It's funny how everyone says "no storyline!" "no characters!" "it's a mashup of stuff!", yet I can clearly see the storyline, characters, etc. Sure, it took more than one watching and a quick Google search to fully understand it, but I've watched some other movies that also had a rather confusing storyline.
What I think most people thought the movie was: An action film mashup of hot chicks killing zombies and murdering robots. Why? They focus on visuals only and never the meaning of the film or think that the film will just easily explain itself rather than the viewer figuring it out him/herself (yes, I've watched movies myself that involved a bit of thinking).
What I (and others?) thought the movie was: A way to show that life can deliver a sucker punch in the end. Why? The main character, Babydoll, thought she would escape herself, but then figured out she was the last "item" to the plan.
Maybe it's because I can somewhat relate to mood of the movie (sadness, anger, revenge, etc.), but it's one of the better movies I've seen in awhile. I enjoyed Watchmen (another movie by the same director, Zachary Snyder), but apparently the critics didn't. Maybe I'm just a sucker for adrenaline-packed action-films and hater of those who just judge a movie by its looks and never plunge deeper.
What did you think of Sucker Punch?
