Just when I thought my day couldn't get any worse...

I haven't posted in a while, but this must be told:

I'm a GT-nut...all of my friends know that...I have 100%...my AOL s/n is GT 24 7 365. I am home from college for the holidays so I thought I'd be able to catch up on some GT3 playing, since I took a bit of a break for the first semester. To my horror, I realized that I left both my Gran Turismo 3 disk and my memory cards at school. After a few minutes of complete emotional breakdown, I remembered that, being as obsessed as I am, I had bought a second copy of Gran Turismo 3 a while back just to say that I had all the different box-arts. And, I have my 100% save backed up on a memory card at home. Crisis averted.

So I was in a pretty crappy mood today and I though a few laps at Laguna Seca would be good for the nerves. I unpacked my PS2, connected all the wires, put in the memory card, the controller, and the disk, and started it up. I see the Columbia/Tri-Star horse logo and I am wondering if I am on the wrong video input and a DVD is somehow playing even though I don't have a DVD player besides the PS2. After a few seconds, I realize that I am watching Spider-Man. The problem is, I don't own Spider-Man. I take out the disk to see if somehow I had accidentally put in a Spider-Man DVD that I don't own, but sure enough it was the Gran Turismo 3 disk. At this point I am beginning to doubt my sanity, so I check it on my laptop...Spider-Man.

I have absolutely no idea how my Gran Turismo 3 disk has Spider-Man on it. I know it is a genuine Gran Turismo 3 disk and not just a Spider-Man DVD with a fake GT3 label, because the "GT" cuts in the label are there and you can see through them when you hold it up to the light...pretty hard to fake. I was under the impression that you could not burn over a PS2 DVD with a regular DVD burner, since they are not DVD-R's or -RW's. So now I am completely confused and without Gran Turismo for the time being. I may just go cry myself to sleep now. BTW, does anyone want to buy a slightly used copy of Spider-Man?

Haha, I never noticed that before. Couldn't you just pick up a used copy somewhere? Should be maybe $10 or so. Maybe rent it, and replace it with your Spiderman/GT3 disk (just kidding...)
 
I say you should sell the GT3/Spiderman disk on Ebay as a collector's item. Maybe if you draw a virgin mary on it it'll sell for big bucks. Then use the money to buy the DFP and GT4 bundle when our release comes around.
 
Now that's just plain ****ing weird. Platy's right, sell it on ebay. Someone will want it.
 
An update:

I compared this interesting hybrid to some other PS2 DVDs and some movie DVDs and I can say almost for certain by the color and the lack of "Playstation 2" markings on the inside rim that it is a movie DVD. The labeling is too perfect for it to be a home job, though. It is an official GT3 label with the "GT" cuts that I mentioned above, and it is fused on. What's stranger is that there is no Spider-Man label under the GT3 one. (Can anyone confirm that Spider-Man does indeed have a label, unlike some DVD's that only have small letters on the inside?)

The ONLY explanation I can come up with is that someone in the SCEI "factory" put a Spider-Man (that for some reason which I cannot even think of an explanation for did not have a label), by accident or on purpose, in the pile with the GT3 disks and it got labeled and shipped out. Which means that I now own the PS2 equivelent of a mint error coin.

Another update:

Sony Pictures Entertainment is listed on imdb.com as a distributer for Spider-Man, could the DVD's have been made in the same place and somehow switched before labelling? If so, where's the copy of Spider-Man that now plays Gran Turismo? :)
 
Wow, never heard anything like that before. Now you won't have to buy Spider Man though!
 
Another explaination is that they were in the same plant at the same time being screened (disc graphics) and the Spiderman disc fell into the GT3 bin....or a factory worker was being cute and put a blank GT3 disc in the Spiderman bin. Maybe there is a Spiderman disc out there with GT3 on it?

Just go buy a 3rd copy of GT3. I was in best Buy today and saw GT3 in the $3.99 box, there must have been 30 of them in there.
 
Wow, that really is an weird story. I'd try to sell it on eBay too, plus you can always get an used GT3 for five, six bucks. My local Best Buy sucks, also will never have an $3.99 bin.
 
Wow, I hope you didnt pay the full fifty bucks for "Spiderman"
 
What Purple Platypus says put it on EBay and some SpiderMan/GT3 nut will buy it !

GT3 hasen't been $50 for years. Full retail price is around $20 now due to it being a "best of PS2" title. However 90% of places you can find it for much, much less. The $3.99 @ best buy was the lowest I have seen. Though I see alot of $5.99 copies.
